everyone should have a manual for their vechicle, and the library should have a professional shop manual available in the reference section for FREE to make copies of--the PRO manual has more detailed info, and may have wiring diagrams when needed...read up and fix 'em like a PRO...good luck Dave :)

Undo the 2 screws on the plastic cover around the dash. Remove it and you will see 3 more screws. Pull the clocks to the side and you will see the all the little bulbs.

you have a faulty engine coolant temp sensor (ect) i had a similar problem with my 2001 s40 1.8. the fans stayed on after switching off the engine, but also mine would rev up to 4000 rpm about 5 mins after start up from cold. replacing the ect fixed both these problems, a genuine Volvo part should cost around £40. the ect is a mojor part controlling the injection system and a faulty one can cause all sorts of problems.

Get a mechanic to do it. You obviously have no idea as to the complexity of the task. e.g valve stem seals, valve seats, warped head tolerances etc.

I've got to change mine as well, but its a 2004 model. I've been told to open the boot & remove carpet /insulation lining to gain access to the lamps . Hope it's the same for your model!

Behind the driver side kick panel,

The wire are located under the plastic cover on the top of the engine. If you are looking at the oil fill cap, the cover is behind the cap. The cover is held in place by six T30 screws. Loosen the screws and the cover comes off, it has two pieces.

The 2005 Volvo S40 only has an integrated fuel filter with the fuel pump in the tank. No additional external filter exists.

The low pressure port is on the back left side of the engine compartment. There will be a black pipe sticking up with a cap that says "9 nM Max." Unscrew the cap and you will see the port. The 9nM Max is referring to the max torque that can be used on the cap, and is basically equivalent to finger tightening without force.

bad fuel mix or mix sensor......maybe the fuel pump.....it could also be spark plugs//.

My car did the same thing I replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator and now it starts in one crank. Its something like $80 brand new and is located on top of the motor to the right side. The fuel line plugs into it and is held in place by a blue lockin lactch thingy. you cant miss it. Good luck.

Period....dont waste any time or money diagnosing, its a very common problem. Just replace mine, part is around $200 from Volvo. Installation is literally 5 minutes, I did it myself in that or less.

I have a 2002 Volvo S40, and it was taking longer than normal to start (cranked fine). I read the forums regarding changing the fuel pressure regulator and decided to try that (it's expensive $240 from Volvo, $199 from Carquest). I bought the part, from Volvo (10% discount coupon from parts department) and when I was replacing the fuel pressure regulator I noticed that the vacuum line that connected the regulator to the intake manifold was cracking and could have been the cause of the fault. Since I already had the part, I replaced the whole unit. But if I were to recommend to anyone else, I would change that vacuum line first to see if that corrects the problem. It is under a small black cover on the drivers side of the car near the front of the engine (2 screws)

Press and hold the rotary button on the clock face, then turn and hold in the direction you wish to go, let go when it gets near correct time then repeat using small increments.

take off the hose from the turbo to intercooler and clean it .now clean hose from intercooler to inlet manafold. now you need a small hose into into right hand side ofthe intercooler push it down and see if any water mixed with oil is found and remove it .with pump you will get in a boat shop.i found this in my Volvo 940 turbo 1991 you must allso clean the crankcase breather common in most Volvo,s

I found that my lights were pointed very low on my T5. when i took apart the projector lens i saw there is a piece of metal blocking the beam from pointing higher. I just bent this beam away from the lens a bit to allow light to be projected upward more. they are very bright now. the question is... how legal?

That's a stop engine fault. What it means is that you need to get it checked out. As for what the specific DTC is, you'll need to have that checked out with an OBDII reader... there are multiple faults which can cause that light to display.

The reset procedure for most of these vehicles is fairly simple, although, a few don't respond to this procedure, for unknown reasons. 1: Key posiion 1 2: Push, and "HOLD" the Trip Reset button on the insrument cluster.. 3: After 2 seconds, keep holding the trip reset while turning the ignition to position 2. 4: In about 10 - 14 seconds, the amber triangle in the dash should flash, Release the trip od when it does. Cycle the ignition, and you should be all set.

Yes it does. You can only get replacement keys from the dealer (and they will need to program it). I have a 2000 S40 and was thinking of just getting a spare/extra key and it was almost $100 and that was a few years ago.

Hello there, My flasher unit has broke down and I am looking for a new one. I have a 1997 V40 and the flasher unit was located front left at the bottom under the stearing wheel.
