i recommend if you repl.the timing belt to repl. the idler & tension pully including the thermostat housing & bleeder hose, plus the front & rear cam seals.

in case of the thermostat housing, if there is a bleeder hose coming from the Thermostat housing to the expansion tank by removing this hose the plastic nipple

on the housing will brake & the housing need replaced.

to the question of special tools the answer is yes.

you need camshaft locking tools to hold the camshafts in place to remove the sprocket

& cvvt unit.

don't try it whit out this tools.

Ensure the gas cap is properly secure and then clear code, if code returns check for loose hoses under hood and you can buy new gas cap because their inexpensive. If code returns you have a leak somewhere in EVAP system which may be difficult to detect for a "do it yourselfer"
