What to do about turbo lag on S80?
To address turbo lag on a Volvo S80, consider checking and potentially replacing the turbocharger's wastegate, as a malfunctioning wastegate can exacerbate lag. Additionally, ensure that the engine's air intake and exhaust systems are clean and free of restrictions, as this can improve responsiveness. Upgrading to a larger turbo or tuning the engine management system can also help reduce lag. Regular maintenance, including oil changes and ensuring proper intercooler function, is essential for optimal turbo performance.

i recommend if you repl.the timing belt to repl. the idler & tension pully including the thermostat housing & bleeder hose, plus the front & rear cam seals.
in case of the thermostat housing, if there is a bleeder hose coming from the Thermostat housing to the expansion tank by removing this hose the plastic nipple
on the housing will brake & the housing need replaced.
to the question of special tools the answer is yes.
you need camshaft locking tools to hold the camshafts in place to remove the sprocket
& cvvt unit.
don't try it whit out this tools.

What does the code p0300 mean on a 2001 Volvo s80?
P0300 Diagnostic Code - Random Misfire
Symptoms.
Engine may stumble or miss
Engine may be hard to start
you may notice no issues
Cause
Failing spark plugs or spark plug wires
Bad coil or coil pack
Failing oxygen sensor(s)
Bad fuel injector or more than one
Stuck exhaust valve
Bad catalytic converter
EGR valve or valve passage clogging
Bad camshaft position sensor
Bad PCM or ECM
The Fix
Best first action is a tune up, new plugs, wires, inspect all hoses and wire connections then reset the code. If it returns you will need to narrow it down to a system, coils and coil packs should be tested, catalytic converters for function ( do you smell rotten eggs?). A misfire that jumps cylinders could indicate a lean condition, do you have any other codes along with the 300? this will help clue you in to the source, check valve function to make sure they are opening and closing fully.
This is probably pone of the most difficult codes to troubleshoot, so start with the basics and work your way into the more expensive options, in many cases a good old tune up solves the problem, back it up with a fuel system cleaning and see where you stand.

How do you change a 2006 Volvo s80 low beam headlight bulb?
1. If you did not put spare bulb in glove compartment for emergancies (for shame!), buy H7 bulb (W-Mart is best bet). Should be about $8.00 each. The two pack is a better buy.
2. Open car hood. Behind the bulb is a black plastic "peanut butter lid" type of cap that seals the bulb in the housing. Unscrew this cap (1/16 turn) and PUT IT SOMEWHERE SAFE.
3. You will now see back of bulb. Pull off the power wire.
4. At top of bulb is a tension wire holding bulb in place. Unhhook the wire and it will hinge down out of the way.
5. Remove bulb (note its orientation) and discard.
6. Take new bulb out of package, but DO NOT TOUCH GLASS. Only hold bottom. Finger oils on glass will cook and reduce bulb life. Wipe glass clean just to be sure.
7. Install new bulb using same orientation as old bulb (it will not fit any other way) and re-latch the tension wire. Re-attach power wire (a dab of dielectric grease here would make for a professional job).
Get black cap from your safe place, note which part is bottom, and screw back on (1/16 turn).
8. Test the light, close the hood.
9. Put spare bulb in glove compartment so that next time bulb dies and policeman pulls you over, say "If I put a new bulb in now, can I avoid the ticket, officer sir?"
When you park it on a hill- use the Parking brake or turn wheels into curb and park vehicle against it.
Another way I have found, but it takes two people. The one in the driver's seat gently shifts the transmission. The second person will need to either be in front or in back of the car rocking it forward and back. This works well, but be careful.
There is a cable from the shifter to the transmission. On mine, the black covering came off and allowed the cable to fray. I changed the cable and now the car easly shifts from park to any other gear. Total cost, about $400 including the cable.

I don't know if this will work for non-turbo models or other years of the S80, but it worked on my car:
1. Insert ignition key and turn to position I.
2. Push in the odometer reset stalk and hold it in.
3. Turn the ignition key to position II. Continue to hold the odometer reset stalk in. After a few seconds the Service light will begin to flash.
4. Release the odometer reset button.
5. Turn the ignition off. You're done!
