How much will it cost to repair the transmission in a 1999 Volvo V70 XC AWD?
The Auo Box on my V70 T5 has just cost $5000 NSD+ GST at Jaspers on the Northshore Auckland. Volvo wanted $6500 + GST. Jaspers had an XC70 in and he said" I got of lightly compared to XC owner, they needed a transfer case and Auto box! Sorry cut your losses and get rid, used Volvo's are rubbish, reading this New ones aren't much better! Good Luck!
Unfortunately, that's the way it works in my 2006, too. Use the fan control that is at thigh-level to the left of the third-row seat, driver's side, to adjust the flow rate through the rear vents. This control only works if the both the "AC" and "Rear AC" switches are activated. It would have been nice if the rear blower could contol fresh air flow also. Not really a "flaw", per se, just short-sighted design.
How do you delete maintenance messages in Volvo s80?
Bring your vehicle to an Auto mechanic for an engine diagnostics test to determine which area of your engine has cause the service engine light to appear illuminated.
The results could be as simple as a sensor going out, or component failure which puts you at major risk.

How do you check the transmission fluid level?
Check the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) For Solid Performance
Your cars automatic transmission fluid is a key element to keeping your car drivable.
* Among other things, on a day-to-day basis transmission fluid: Cleans
* Cools
* Lubricates
* Transmits force
* Transmits pressure
* Inhibits varnish build-up
* Protects the transmission
You check your automatic transmission fluid much the same way as you check your engine oil: Remove a dipstick from under the hood and inspect the fluid level. The dipstick for your automatic transmission fluid may be labeled TRANS or ATF; it may also be colored bright yellow or another color for easy recognition.
In most cases, automatic transmissions must be checked when the engine is running and only after it is warmed up. Driving the car 10 miles or more is the best way to properly warm it up. Checking the ATF Overview:
* Park the car on a level surface.
* Leave your foot on the brake, keep the parking brake on, and let the engine idle.
* Move the gear shift through each gear. This will ensure that the hydraulic chambers in the transmission are filled with oil. Also, checking the level with the engine running allows for fluid to be circulating normally. By not following this step, you will get an incorrect reading.
* Note: Sometimes, checking your fluid with the car in park or neutral is required. Consult the owners manual for more information, or some vehicles have the instructions on the dipstick.
* Locate the transmission dipstick, usually placed at the rear of the engine. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean with a paper towel or a rag. Be sure to note the markings on the end of the stick that indicate fluid levels: "FULL" and "ADD 1 PINT".
* Also check the fluid for black deposits, metal particles and dirt. Do this by wiping the dipstick with clean a white paper towel and examining the fluid on the paper.
* Also check that the fluid is clean and transparent, not black and/or having a burnt smell.
To add transmission fluid:
* Only add transmission fluid if it is at or below the Add mark. Never fill it past the Full mark.
* Be sure to only use transmission fluid that is recommended by the manufacturer. Consult the owners manual for this information.
* Transmission fluid is usually sold in quarts. Do not add the entire quart at once; add small amounts at a time until you get the correct reading on the dipstick.
* Use a funnel to get the fluid into the small tube that the dipstick came out of.
* Wait for the fluid to settle after adding it.
* After a few minutes, start the vehicle. If it still is not reading the correct level, add more fluid.
Standards are considerably different, on my 1.9L 5 Speed, on top of the transmition, is the speedometer gear, you gave to pull that gear out to check the fluid level, if the gear is covered completely with fluid, then it is full, if it is not completely covered, then you need to add some to it, throu that very same hole.
Chevy cobalts auto or standard don't have a dipstick there is a plug under the car near the torqe converter u must have the car running and up to normal running temp raise the car evenly on all sides so its level while its running crawl under undo the plug if fluid runs out its full if not go to the top of the car near the fuse block undo the vent cap at the top of the tranny big black cap and fill there until fluid drips out of the hole by the torqe converter when it drips put plug back in and vent cap and you are done i am a mechanic at a local chev dealer and own one
How do you shift semi truck gears?
Semi trucks have the so-called split-range gearboxes. Each gears is split in a "high" and "low" range, selectable by a small switch mounted on the front side of the gearshift lever. When you are in (for example) fourth low, you switch to fourth high in the following manner:
1) flip the switch up to select the high split
2) Press the clutch
3) Wait for about a second
4) Release the clutch
If you released the clutch too fast, the gear will not engage. In that case simply repeat step 3 and wait a little longer
The whole gears (usualy 1 to 8) are split in two ranges. In the example of eight gears, the split would be 4 by 4. When you wish to shift from 4th to 5th, you must switch to the high range. Conversely, if you wish to downshift from 5th to 4th, you must switch to the low range. The switching of ranges is done in either of two ways:
A) By moving the gearshift lever. Drivers refer to this as a "bitch slap". Normally the neutral position for the low range will be between 3rd and 4th (1st and 2nd being to the left). When you are in 4th and wish to shift to 5th, do the following:
1) Press the clutch and shift to neutral
2) Release the clutch
3) push the lever sideways (to the right)
4) As soon as you feel resistance, remove your hand
5) The lever is now in neutral for the high range (that is between 5th and 6th, 7th and 8th being to the right)
6) Press the clutch and push the lever forward to engage 5th
To select the low range repeat the above, but in step 3 pull the lever to the left.
B) By a range switch, mounted on the side of the gearshift lever. When you're in 4th, flip the switch up and shift where 1st is. With the switch up now there is the 5th. Conversely, when you downshift from 5th, put the switch down and shift, putting the lever wher th is (with the low range selected, now there's 4th.
In a classic gearbox 2 ranges, 4 gears each, split in two gives you a total of 1 gears. In some tractors (most notably Volvo FH) there are 6 gears in two ranges (3 gears each), giving total of 12 gears.
It is possible (and actually recommended) to switch whole gears only, or a gear and a half (e.g. when in 5th low, you may select the high split, press the clutch and shift directly into 6th high)
