What causes exhaust backfire on 1989 Mazda B2000?

Is the alternator on a 1973 VW Beetle and a 1974 Super Beetle the same?

The Bell housing on the engines are located in slightly different areas. Thus the Altenator was relocated. The Super Beatle Altenator is 3 bolt, and smaller. HOpe this helps.. Reximus Manning. There are two alternators for Volkswagen Beetles: the Bosch AL82X, and the Motorola abomination they threw on there for a while when Bosch couldn't make enough AL82X to meet VW's needs. They're the same size, so if you've got a 74 SB and a 73 alternator, go ahead and install it Since the sheetmetal is the same between the two, you're fine. (If you were moving an alternator from a 72 to a 74, you'd have to switch the backing plates because VW changed the fan shroud that year, and the backing plates are different.)

How do you lower a 1964 VW bug?

The rear tortion bars have different sizes of spline, inboard or outboard, so you turn the trailing arm on the tortion bar until you reach the desired height eg. down 1 large, too high,up one small till you find a combo that works

The front main beam can be replaced with an adjustable one.
I have heard you can grind the welds off the tubes, turn them and reweld, but check that, because I've never done it

Purchase dropped spindles for the front

How do you remove the distributor gear with out the puller on a VW air cooled engine?

You can't do it, unless you want to pull the engine and split the case. The puller is the only way to grab the drive pinion.

Will seats from a 2003 beetle fit in a 1974 super beetle?

As a straight swap, No. Every few years VW changed the seat mounts let alone different models. But as far as retro fitting them, people do it all the time. People have put seats from Hondas, Toyotas, etc. in classic bugs. It's just a matter of making your own mounts. Just measure the width and height to make sure they will fit.

How are vw new beetles in the snow?

I have an 2004 New Beetle turbo (not a convertible). It does really great in the snow EXCEPT when the snow is higher than the bumper, it does fine going straight but when you try and turn (say, pulling into your driveway) it has problems. Other than that mine has done well. Thinking about investing in some snow tires this year though.

Does a 1969 Vw beetle need lead substitute in the gas?

Short answer: no. The air cooled engines have an excellent valve train with stainless steel valves and hardenedvalve seats which seem to stand up well to todays gasoline without any lead. Todays gasolines have additives that take care of this stuff now.

A 2001 Volkswagen Bug (Beetle) can tow up to 85 percent of its curb weight. This means that the towing capacity is around 2,000 pounds. Check the door frame on the driver's side for the weight of the vehicle, as this model came with 2 different curb weights because of engine size.

How do you lower 1964 VW Beetle?

You need to twist the torsion bars to a different setting and then refit the suspension plates on another spline, can be tricky. Not sure about the front, it's been too long since I had one apart.

What would cause a 1979 VW Beetle to backfire?

There are two things that can cause it. The most likely one is timing too retarded. The other is an exhaust leak. Since your car is fuel injected, you probably have the Exhaust Gas Recirculation system hooked up, and this is where most of the backfire-causing exhaust leaks come from. So it's probably timing.

It's located just beneath the generator/alternator stand, stamped on the case. If you look through the space between the two pulleys, the alpha-numeric number should be visible.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 1976 beetle cabriolet which shows where the wires for the parking light and brake warning light dash lights should go - there are about 6 wires which go into a?

I don't have one but I can tell you where one is. Every Volkswagen owner needs the Robert Bentley service manual--this is a reprint of the official VW shop manual. The one you need is for 1969-1979 VW Beetle, Super Beetle, Convertible and Karmann Ghia, and the cover's orange. That manual contains the wiring diagrams for every Bug it covers.
