If you hold the fan,with the engine NOT running, and try to move it side to side and there is not any play in it and it is not leaking, then you can assume that it is good. If it is making noise then it is defective.

If you can do the work yourself, it will cost you around $100 to replace a Yukon water pump. If you take it to a service center, it will cost at least $200 more.

Low coolant? Radiator plugged or restricted? Cooling fan not working? Water pump not circulating coolant? Thermostat not opening? Cooling system airbound?

When a vehicle randomly overheats, it is likely that the coolant level is low. Check the and fill the level to proper amount.

I just installed a water pump on a 1997 Chevy Lumina and used Permatex Water Pump and Thermostat Housing RTV Silicone Gasket. Gel or paste in a .5 oz tube. Got it at ORilleys Auto Store. I don't like to install gaskets without something on them, just in case. I used a single edge razor blade to remove the old gasket material. You have to be careful not the damage the gasket face on the Engine water pump housing.

The back windshield wiper may not be working because there may be a short in the switch. It is best to have an auto mechanic look at it.

In July 2009 our 2000 Malibu V-6 began to overheat in Naperville, Ill. We were on our way home to Scottsdale Az .It was towed to a Pep Boy's where after $50 inspection we were told it needed both head gaskets and heads shaved! 3 days for repairs and $2500 estimate! I looked on the shelf and found a bottle of KW Nanotechnology head gasket sealer for $20 bought it while the mechanics all snickered at me and proceeded to pour it in the car in their parking lot. We headed back to our daughters home approx 6 miles away and I noticed the Temp needle was dropping down to normal range! Next morning we said "what the hell" let's head for AZ and see how far we get! It's now July7, 2010 and 4000+ miles later (including a trip down to Mexico) the car runs like a dream A/C on constantly! This stuff works Big Time! I don't travel without a bottle in the trunk! Thanks KB you saved us $ and our vacation!

First off, no way could anyone tell you that you needed both heads shaved without removing the heads and having them inspected. They might be perfectly fine or may need work. Secondly, these type products are used as an emergency repair and are not permanent no matter what they claim. Thirdly these type products can clog the radiator, heater core, and coolant passages within the engine. You may drive the car for a few thousand mile but in the end You will have the replace the head gaskets. You are just postponing the inevitable and may end up doing more damage. Have it done right and do not use any of these type products.

It should cost no more than $350, if u also replace the timing belt, which i recommend. The total w both water pump and timing belt should cost $375, and that's a padded estimate.

Engines vary. The normal operating temperature for a modern (e.g., 1996+) automobile engine, manufactured for sale or use in the US, will fall between 200 and 250 degrees F. Smog equipment and computerized combustion control favor a 'hotter' running engine. The proper amount and concentration of coolant in your engine will protect it.

The thermostat plays a big part in controlling it. If you buy a 185 degree thermostat it opens at 185 degrees. Same with a 195 & so on. Average engine temp (as no specific given) would be around 195 - 205 degrees. The cooling fans come on around 210 degrees approx. The temperature will vary according to driving conditions, ambient temperature etc..

Some newer engines will run in the 220 to 230 deg range.

The water pump for a 3sfe engine is on the back and bottom of the engine. It is on the passenger side of the car.

Remove the water hose and allow the water to drain into a bucket. Remove the retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new water pump.

No heat coming from the heater and the car overheating is usually the thermostat stuck closed. The thermostat is supposed to open up at a certain temperature allowing the engine to warm up quickly.

This is a sign of residue in the hot water pipes. i guess at your part of the world, you must be using corrosive type of water pipes. The heat in the water helps oxidization of the inside of pipe and when the same pipe is not used to transfer of water in the pipe, existing water in the pipe caused corrosion so when the tap is opened after a while, the water that comes out is brown. To avoid this, you need to use the tap more often to stop the brown build up inside the pipe.

Most gas stations have several filters to keep water out but water can get into the gasoline. Yes, it is possible.

If it is a 16V engine then the thermostat housing is on the right of the engine looking from the front, under the coil pack, follow the top radiator hose to find it quickly.
