It depends on where you are and who you are and it also depends on your definition of "famous". Nobody can interview everyone in the world to find out if they have heard of Shakespeare or not.

The length of fame they both have depends on the duration they've been around. Shrek has been around since the early 2000s until 2013, so it lasted 13 years, whereas Pingu lasted more than this, the short answer to this question is that Pingu is more famous than Shrek.

Probably Mickey Mouse, the cartoon dates to l928 ( a Disney original) Kermit ( originally not a true frog but a ( Frog-like Creature) only came out as part of the Muppets act in the mid-sixties. The muppets traipsed about on various variety shows long before taking up residence at- Sesame Street.

I think both are globally famous...but i would put Michael a bit ahead of David on the famous quotient.....there are regions where they have no football influence anyhow in parts of this world......but music spreads like wildfire.....and CD and recordings remain all the time every time every where......i dunno if that makes a perfect justification.....but that's my view....so Michael stands ahead of David.....

That depends on where you live. I'd suggest that country music is more popular in rural communities and rock more so in urban communities.
