there are several answers i could come up with for this one, depending on the OS you use, many systems use empty hard disk space and convert that into what is called "virtual memory." so systems use both, actual memory installed, and virtual "paged" memory. so to simplify the answer, the more memory you have, the less time programs have to use your hard disk "memory" to finish, or run tasks. when your drive is being accessed for memory, it takes away access time for applications. The limiting reagent model: your system can only go as fast the the slowest reagent. Of course, all of this must take into account your OS and how the program you want to run is coded. One of the really exciting new ones is the concept of the read-only domain controller. Before with AD, as compared with NT 4.0 in particular, every domain controller has a writable copy of your directory. You can make a change anywhere and it will propagate throughout the environment. At the same time, all of [the domain controllers] have secrets like your password. Right now with Windows Server 2003, if that server security is physically compromised and gets stolen and it's not secure, then you have a huge security issue in that all the password for that domain are in the DNCs. So the only approach you can take is to make everyone change their password. That's a big deal if you have 100,000 people on that domain.

With the new read-only domain controller feature, this change is two-fold. First you can now define which passwords are stored locally. Now if the server gets stolen, you only have to have 100 people change their passwords versus 100,000.

Second, you can't make any changes on that domain controller (DC), because it's read only.

If you are installing windows XP with Windows 9x or me than the I would recommend you to use FAT32 as if you use NTFS than you wont be able to access Windows XP with NTFS partition. If you are installing Windows XP with Windows NT or Windows 2000 than you can use any partition type. But I would recommend to use NTFS.

yes..I have had many problems with phtodeluxe 3 and 4 on Vista. I can't load this or that..cannot find circle. dll..I used to have that parser issue but that was easily resolved. Suddenly a few weeks back neither would open completely.Just now I tried to use it again. I went to the the photodeluxe "folder" and clicked on the colorful pd4 and it worked. But when I copied it to the desktop, it would not work..so, I went back to the pd4 "sent" it to the desktop and it works fine..at least for the moment. I have photoshop but like many of you agree, it is much more complicated. I wish Adobe would create another photodeluxe program...So many of us love it and would be happy to pay for it..again. But for now, Photodeluxe 4 is working on my vista home premium.

Yes you can install Photodeluxe 4 on Vista Home Premium by doing the normal install then [right click] on Photodeluxe's desktop shortcut, click [Properties], click on the [Compatibility tab] and [checkmark] the open box for [Run this program in compatibility mode] and make sure it is set for Windows XP (Service Pack 2). I'm no computer wiz but the easy answer for me was to click on the disc icon or shortcut to disc drive. Click on English, then click on Install, then back click on Setup (16 bit launcher). The last thing you do is click on Run as Administrator. In my case it started loading the PhotoDeluxe 4.0 like there never was a problem. The first time I edited a picture the program ran slow but when I closed it a message came up and now it runs perfectly.

Much faster then on my old PC with Windows XP. The old "scratch disc is full" problem is gone too.

The first thing you should do is check whether you really forget login password or not. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:

Start system and when you See Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys Twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Press Enter and you will be able to log in Windows.

Or you can get into the Safe Mode to reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts". In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

I would have to say HP works the best because they last longer and they are nicer and if you buy HP used you can get a good deal, but you have to be careful were you buy. My sisters and I have HPs and they are nice.

Both are ok, but your best bet on buying any computer is buying from a smaller company. They generally give the best customer service as well as a more sturdy and higher quality computer.

Not necessarily. If you only use Windows, it makes no sense to have different file file systems, as FAT32 is rather inefficient and Windows 2000/XP/Vista default to NTFS anyway. If you dual-boot with Linux, you should use different file systems, as Linux doesn't handle NTFS very well, Windows can't read Linux partitions (like ext3 or ReiserFS) at all without additional software, and FAT32 is unsuitable for both. If you use Linux by itself, you can use multiple file systems without any issue, although sticking to one may be easier for performance or maintenance reasons (ReiserFS is faster; ext2/3 has more widespread support in various recovery tools).
