There are many things that could cause this, but I would first try this. Since it does read at first, but then doesn't respond after some time it may be a software problem. Find out the exact model of your Drive and Manufacturer. You can usually find the model on a sticker on the back, top, or bottom of the drive. Go to their website and see if you can download new Firmware for the drive. Many times the Firmware will correct problems that exists due to driver conflicts and/or Motherboard/OS compatibility. There will be instructions on how to do this on the manufacturers website. Try this first and if it doesnt work, it may be a bad drive.

You may be referring to a path or shortcut icon on the desktop that points to a specific file or program.

A format will erase EVERYTHING, so if you have an external hard drive, backup everything in there. It will also erase your operating system as well. If you reformat, your computer won't have an OS to boot from.

If your computer is manufactured one like DELL/Compaq/HP/Gateway, your computer may have come with a system restore disk that will do the reformat for you and install everything exactly as it was when you brought it home. If it doesn't come with this disc, many times you can buy it from the manufacturer. If your computer is an Acer, there is an option using Acer eRecovery Service to restore it to the Factory Defaults. Your Acer may also have come with a recovery disk, which you can restore using using the eRecovery Service.

Boot n Nuke is another piece of free software that can format and erase your hard drive over and over again.

.PRS have been used a few different places over the years. Probably the file you want to open is a presentation file created by Harvard Graphics. You might need the original software to open and edit.

Notepad, a few Database and other Presentation/Slide show softwares have reported being able to open these.

Drivers are installed to the system32 folder because they are important for your hardware to work, they tell your computer how to use the hardware that they are designed for. This depends on your expertise and preference. 1. Resizing partition with the Partition Manager on Windows 7

You can resize directly to the desired size for your partition. Clink Resize.

At the opening of the window you can then indicate with precision the size of your new partition.

You can reduce the size quickly and change the partition size by dragging the double-headed arrow (circled in red). Then click OK.

Your hard drive will appear in two parts: A partition with operating system Windows 7 (in blue) and an Unallocated Partition (in gray).

To validate these changes simply click on Apply.

2. Create a partition with Partition Manager Assistant Home Edition 2.0 on Windows 7

Once you have completed the resizing your partition, create the partition so that Windows 7 will recognize it and can use it. This is the same to right click on the unallocated partition and click on Create.

Otherwise, you can also select the unallocated partition and click on Create.

In both cases, you will get this dialog box telling you the settings to create your partition.

In the partition label (partition name) enter a name easy to remember and easy identification. We chose to use the name of Disque_6GB. While this is optional, we recommend that you define then a letter to your reader. For our part we have chosen the letter E. It's your choice and identify that the letter of your future hard disk partition. Then click OK.

All parameters for the partition management are now complete. It remains only to apply for that Partition Assistant Home Edition 2.0 makes these changes and recognize them in Windows 7.

To validate these changes simply click on Apply.

3. Apply changes all partitions to take effect

Once you have clicked on Apply, you will confirm these changes by clicking on Proceed (Continue).

Note: In the Resizing Partition (partition resizing) in blue you have an instruction required reboot (restart required) which means you'll have to restart your computer for the changes being made. Save your open documents before you click on Proceed (Continue).

Then click Restart Now.

Windows 7 is going to restart.

At this stage it is always possible to undo the changes by clicking on any key on your keyboard. Otherwise, the partitioning assistant will launch after 8 seconds...
