What is the name of the folder on the Windows 2000xp CD where the installation files stored?

In A+ Guide to Managing & Maintaining Your PC Sixth Edition, Page 59 of Chapter 2 "What an Operating System Does" You will find it says:

"The data is stored in a file on the hard drive called a SWAP file or PAGE file. The Windows 2000/XP swap file is Pagefile.sys, and the Windows 9x/Me swap file is Win386.swp."

What does the Xp in the operating system Windows Xp mean?

According to one source, the XP in windows XP stands for 'Experience' (as in the "Windows experience"). A similar connotation was made for the 64-bit successor, Windows Vista.

------

Another possibility (but not one Microsoft marketing would have chosen) :

The "XP" was meant to show the human side of the software by using two characters that were known to be used for smilies in textspeak : the X being squinting eyes while the P would be the mouth and protruding tongue.

-------

Among the Microsoft developers, XP is 2001 in Roman numerals.

The more standard MMI was avoided, because the MRNSDK (Microsoft Roman Numeral Development Kit) doesn't fully support the M symbol for 1000. Of course, P is not generally included in the Roman numeral system; it was quietly added between the 1.01 and subsequent 8.0 releases of the MRNSDK. Though undocumented, and possessing obscure semantics, the P extension is widely used. In any case, it is easy to verify through experimentation that XP = 2001.

How do you stop Skype from automatically updating?

In skype ... Tools > Options > Advanced. In the "When a new verison of skype is available ..." section uncheck the "Automatically download and install it" check box.

If like me your camera stopped working after an update then installing version 4.0.1 (get from web) and unchecking this option will mean your camera will keep working and you won't be forced to go out and buy a webcam that skype is getting a kickback from.

What is the difference between USB 2.0 and 3.0?

as far as i can tell its just for all practical purposes nothing but the price ...... there is some technical mumbo jumbo ....(see below) but unless your cable runs are reaching toward maximum....why bother???

"The maximum length of a standard USB cable is 5.0 meters (16.4 ft). The primary reason for this limit is the maximum allowed round-trip delay of about 1500 ns. If a USB device does not answer to host commands within the allowed time, the host considers the command to be lost. When USB device response time, delays from using the maximum number of hubs and delays from cables connecting the hubs, host and device are summed, the maximum delay caused by a single cable turns out to be 26 ns [10]. The USB 2.0 specification states that the cable delay must be less than 5.2 ns per meter, which means that maximum length USB cable is 5 meters long. However, this is also very close to the maximum possible length when using a standard copper cable."

from wikipedia

The difference between USB1 and USB 2 is that the USB 2 is shielded (like TV coaxial cable) to prevent signal loss between computer and printer. Look for a printer cable that is clear with the shielding visible.

How can you get sound on your computer when the control panel says that there is no audio device?

Bummer, sounds like yo need to install a device driver for your soundcard.

If you have a brand name PC you can probably get it from the manufacturers website. If you don't then you'll need to find out what model soundcard you've got. Download Craig Hart's PCI32 diagnostics to find out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The problem probably started due to driver incompatibilities. I had a similar one when I installed a new graphics card and updated drivers.

Start up your computer and go to your BIOS (hold down the key to go to 'Setup').

Go to Onboard Audio and switch from Auto to Enabled (or perhaps viceversa).

This is what worked for me. Credit goes to the good people at the Nvidia forums. Good luck.

What software runs specific programs?

Your question is somewhat undefined.

( Computer software, or just software, is a collection of computer programs and related data that provides the instructions for telling a computer what to do and how to do it)

Then, you'll need an operating system to run softwares (programs.)

Softwares don't run, they are runned by the operating system installed on a computer.

What are the differences between file server and client server architectures?

file server is a computer responsible for the central storage and management of data files so that other computers on the same network can access the files. A file server allows users to share information over a network without having to physically transfer files by floppy diskette or some other external storage device. Any computer can be configured to be a host and act as a file server. In its simplest form, a file server may be an ordinary PC that handles requests for files and sends them over the network. In a more sophisticated network, a file server might be a dedicated network-attached storage (NAS) device that also serves as a remote hard disk drive for other computers, allowing anyone on the network to store files on it as if to their own hard drive.

Client/server it is the relationship between two computer programs in which one program, the client, makes a service request from another program, the server, which fulfills the request. Although the client/server idea can be used by programs within a single computer, it is a more important idea in a network. In a network, the client/server model provides a convenient way to interconnect programs that are distributed efficiently across different locations. Computer transactions using the client/server model are very common. For example, to check your bank account from your computer, a client program in your computer forwards your request to a server program at the bank. That program may in turn forward the request to its own client program that sends a request to a database server at another bank computer to retrieve your account balance. The balance is returned back to the bank data client, which in turn serves it back to the client in your personal computer, which displays the information for you. Who uses a tablet PC?

Casual I would think. Anything more than casually using a computer is a pain on Windows 8 (Or any other tablet software for that matter) and that would always restrict you.

I would also have to look into how well those detachable keyboards are. If they are a pain to type on that could make a difference as well.

What does a window represents in GUI?

Window represents in a GUI:

When we turn on our computer, Windows is loaded automatically into the computer's memory (RAM) from the hard disk where it resides. This process of loading the operating system is called booting the system. Windows is a graphical user interface(GUI) and is easy to learn in contrast to the DOS, which is command line Interface. An interface determines how you interact with your computer to do things like entering data or running programs like changing fonts, numbering lines, breaking the text into columns or spell checking.

Why would your computer not boot up?

if you're using Windows, just insert a recovery disc and a lot of time it will fix it, if that doesn't do it , clean install, sometimes the hdd could have a problem not related to windows at all but sometimes they will just not read right and need to be reformatted.

When Windows fails to boot it is normally caused by a user installing a program or device and it has caused a conflict with one or more other programs. This will no doubt give you plenty of heartache if you're not certain which program caused Windows to not boot up.

If you recently installed a program or application and know where it was installed, you may be in much better shape as for as correcting the error. Here are common ways to correct the problem of your computer not completely booting up or not booting up at all.

If your computer will not boot-up at all, hopefully you have made a good emergency boot disk. You can always make a windows startup disk by creating one from another computer running Windows 98 or Me. Perform the following if your computer won't Boot-Up At All.

FIRST: Put your boot floppy disk in the floppy drive and turn on the PC.On some computers, you may have to access the bios and select the Boot priority to your A: drive. Save any changes and select "Start Computer without CDROM support" and press Enter. Once you are at the A prompt, type dir c: and press enter.

If your programs and other files are present, try restoring your system Registry by following the steps below. This may repair Windows, the Config. Sys and autoexec.bat files to where the PC may boot up normally. When the files are present, it's a good indication of a good hard drive.

SECOND: To correct the problem of your computer not booting up,type in "fdisk /mbr" and press Enter to restore your master boot record.Type "Scandisk C:" to check the hard drive for errors that have occurred. You can also type "Sys C:" to hopefully restore files needed to boot up your computer.

THIRD: If the above procedures fail to repair your computer, you can repeat the first part of step one above and select "Start Computer With CDROM Support" re-install Windows.

Making A Windows XP Bootable Floppy Windows XP users should create a boot disk now by placing a formatted blank diskette in the A: drive, open Windows Explorer to the C:,select Tools,Folder Options ,show Hidden files and and folders, then View Tab. Now you uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System Files (recommended). You will see a warning and click Yes and click OK. Copy the files ntldr,ntdetect.com and boot.ini onto the disk. Remove the disk and label it the Windows XP Boot Disk.

After making your boot disk, recheck "Hide protected operating system files and folders (recommended)" in the Folder Options dialog box. To use the disk when Windows XP won't boot, place the disk in the drive, and unto re-booting,the computer, Windows simply bypass the basic boot files on the hard drive and continue to boot up.

If The PC Won't Boot Past Windows

FIRST: If your Operating System is Windows Millennium, turn on the computer and immediately press and hold down the CTRL key. Once the startup options appear, release the CTRL key. Select Safe Mode and press Enter. You are now in Windows limited version. If you know what caused your computer not to boot, you can now either change or delete that program.

SECOND: Repair your Registry by selecting Start,Run and typing "scanregw /fix" and press enter. This will fix any damage done to the Registry. You can also restore your registry which replaces your current registry with an earlier copy that was backed up by your computer. Click on Start,Run and type "scanregw /restore and press Enter.

To repair your Windows 98 Registry, hold down the CTRL key as you start the PC and select "Command Prompt Only". Type "scanreg /fix" and press Enter and "scanreg/restore" to restore a previously saved copy of the Registry.

If you have Windows XP,press F8 after rebooting the PC should Windows freeze while booting up. You can select "Last Known Good Configuration" after rebooting to allow the computer to boot the last backed up files. And you can choose "Safe Mode" to remove any files you know caused the operating system to hang up.

Be prepared when your operating fails to boot. It would be a great idea to go over this article a few times and print it. Make yourself s notebook and place this and all related articles there.

If your computer fails to boot or begins to become unstable, you can refer to these articles to make corrections that are needed. Learn these steps from your television set with the PC Super Pack.

Be sure to note any changes you make to your Registry and if you're not sure, its best to find a friend that's PC savvy first. Above all,be certain you backup your registry before making any changes and know how to restore as well.

Very basically your system is based on a CPU (Central Processing Unit) - This controls the other components of the Mother Board . The Mother board holds the DDR DIMM,s (Double Data Rate - Dual Inline Memory Modules / Memory sticks) and the Ethernet controller unit (for Internet) and a fan keeps this cool (30C-55C). There are also additional video cards / etc etc.etc. There are many more components that will be specific to each model of computer, but the above are the basics.
