Wood Carving

A carved stone or pillar is a solid piece of stone that has been shaped, sculpted, or engraved to create decorative or functional elements. These structures often feature intricate designs, inscriptions, or reliefs and can serve various purposes, such as commemorating events, marking boundaries, or serving as architectural supports. Historically, carved stones and pillars have been significant in many cultures, often reflecting artistic styles and societal values. They are commonly found in temples, monuments, and public spaces.

The mountain where U.S. presidents have their faces carved is Mount Rushmore, located in South Dakota. The medium in a carving would be the substance which is carved. If a piece of granite is carved, the medium is 'granite' (or less specifically 'stone'), similarly for wood or ice. The medium is what carries the carving, which is the material is used to convey the carved design.
