Fleas

Fleas are wingless insects that live off the blood of mammals and birds. There are over 2,000 species of fleas, and due to their thick outer layer, are difficult to kill through force alone. When fleas feed on a host, they tend to leave raised and itchy bumps, and can sometimes cause diseases.

Can polmolive dish soap kill fleas?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I don't think so. I would try flea powder or anti-flea soaps. If you would like to have your cat/s cleaned everyday,

1. Buy animal shampoo.- Cheap ones could work.

2. Get some lukewarm water in a basin.- Not too much, just enough for your pet.

3. Get a absorbent cloth.- Dip it in the mixture and then, rub your pet. Use as much as it takes to rub it.

4. Get a DRY cloth. - Rub it all over until your pet is dry.

What kills fleas On dog?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Fleas are really common. Dogs can get fleas from other dogs, cats and grass. Identify where you think they got fleas from and stop this, so they don't keep getting fleas.

You have to treat carpets, sofas and the whole house if the infestation is quite bad. Hoovering is the best way to get rid of most fleas and their eggs. Fleas lay eggs in crack and gaps so concentrate on these areas.

Medication for getting rid of fleas on the dog will only work if you solve the carpet/sofa issue. You can get drops to put on the back of the dogs neck. These are really effective because it doesn't kill the fleas - it means the eggs the fleas lay won't survive, so you break the life-cycle. Flea shampoos are not effective - normal water and soap will kill fleas. Pills for fleas are also not recommended as they only kill the fleas that are on the dog - not in the carpets.

If these methods don't work, get an exterminator in to gas the whole house!

What do fleas look like on dogs?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

They are tiny black or deep brown and yes, they do bite the dog. They also can get into things in the house. Some people are allergic to flea bites. If the dogs don't go to the vet and get a flea remedy such as "Program" (the vets have other types) then the dog will be miserable. Fleas are usually all over a dog, but particularly love the nose area and behind the ears.

How do you get fleas out of a bed?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Only way that helped me years ago, was to go and buy a few cans of bug bombs. CAUTION!! If you do this, make the necessary precautions before you set these off. I don't know where your pets kennel is so here goes for in the home: Get all children and pets out the house, make sure you have everything you need with you before you do this, you do not want to go back in your house once you set these off. Then after so many hours you can go back into your house, all the bugs should be dead, including any spiders or any other bugs. Make sure you wash all your glasses and dishes, or put what you use alot into a plastic bag Inhaling this is LETHAL!!!!!!!!

How can you get the fleas off your dog quickly and easily?

User Avatar

Asked by Skylersims

I would recommend talking to your veterinarian - there are now several very effective medications that will take care of both adult fleas and the fleas still in the egg/larva stage. However, if your house is infested with fleas (which is likely if your dog has fleas), you will probably need to hire a professional pest exterminator to get rid of them.

The silver lining here is, once you get rid of the fleas, there are several monthly medications you can start using to make sure you don't get them again.

To find out if a kitten has fleas, aside from the obvious scratching and biting, use a flea comb over white paper. Comb slow and see if little pepper spots show on the white paper. If there are any specks, then the kitten has fleas. Helen

Does fleas go to house to house by people?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes but they also travel by pets. The pet can then jump onto a human and after that, whatever the human who has the fleas touches, the fleas will be on too. Fleas mate very quickly so you need to isolate anything or anyone who has the fleas and then get rid of them.
