Simplistically Power is Voltage times Current. Sending at domestic voltage requires much more current to be sent for the same power and therefore much thicker wires, heavier equipment and more repeater transformers as over distance the resistance of the wires and switches would cause the voltage to fall quickly below domestic. For the same power delivery, sending at higher voltages requires less current, lighter wires, and voltage losses over distance are more easily managed so much less equipment is required.

Graphite is an allotrope of Carbon. Anyone carbon atom wants to make FOUR bonds with adjacent atoms. However, in graphite it only makes THREE bonds, leaving a 'loose' electron. This electron is able to move , hence conduction of electricity.

By comparison, Diamond is also an allotrope of Carbon. However, in this case all four bonds are made to adjacent atoms. This leaves no 'spare' electrons, so diamond does NOT conduct electricity.

A third allotrope of Carbon is the Buckminster Fullerene (Footballene). It is thought that the fullerene can act as a 'super conductor'.

In order to plug your 3 wire stove into a 4 wire outlet, the easiest way to do so is to change the cord on the stove. This does not require cutting power to the outlet or anything like that.

Anyone who is going to be changing the power cable on any device knows that you need to unplug the cord first, eliminating the need to cut power to the outlet.

The difference between a 3 prong and 4 prong outlet is the ground wire. Both provide 240v power by supplying 2 120v wires (red and black). There is also a white wire, which will be your neutral wire.

The green wire is your ground, and should be bolted to the body of the stove. (Most appliances have a location for attaching the ground wire).

When connecting your wires, there should be 3 wire locations. You should connect one of the two hot wires (red or black), then your white wire in the middle, and then your other hot. The green will be your ground.
