What is the probability if Three squares are randomly chosen from a chess board such that two of them have one color and the third square has another color is?

There are (64 x 63 x 62)/(3 x 2) possible sets of 3 squares;

there are 2 x (32 x 31 x 30)/(3 x 2) sets of 3 the same colour.

Of the 41664 possible threesomes, 9920 are identical in colour, a probability of 0.238

Added: This is identical to the probability of picking three odd or three even numbers from a bag containing the first 64 bingo balls!

Second add-on: I have amended the original answer which was wrong!

The alternative calculation is that after picking one square there are 31 of the remaining 63 which will be of the same colour and if that is so there will be 30 out of 62 to complete the trio. The calculation (simpler!) is thus 31/63 x 30/62 or 930/3906, a probability of 0.238.

How can a game of chess be compared to mutually assured destruction?

Actually, it can't. Somebody wins in chess, and if the game stalemates, it is unintentional. Mutually Assured Destruction is a kind of engineered stalemate to protect both parties, and forestall nuclear war, where neither side would win.

Can you take a checked chess peace?

In normal chess rules, the only piece that can be "checked" ... put in check ... is the opposing King.

Technically, the King is never actually "taken", but rather put in checkmate; a state in which it is in check and no legal move to get it out of check exists. The game ends at this point, so there's little point in actually "taking" the King.

What is the meaning of poisoned pawn in chess?

When the game originated one pawn was coated in arsenic at the beginning of a match.

Then at the end the loser of the match had to pick a pawn to lick. if they chose the "poisoned pawn" they would die.

NOTE: The above is an entertaining lie. The Poisoned Pawn is a move in which a pawn is used as bait in order to gain an advantage, such as freeing a guarded square to secure a checkmate or to capture a menacing piece. Basically, it is tempting your opponent with an insignifigant sacrifice to swoop in for a move that needed the opponant's piece out of the way in order to perform, and putting a pawn out in the open and having the opponant take it performs that role nicely.

What is open line in chess?

In Chess, an open line is a diagonal, rank or file that has no pieces to block the piece that intends to use it. For example, the most common first move by White is moving the pawn in front of the King two spaces forward. Once this pawn is moved that way, the Queen has an open line to move along the diagonal from her initial spot all the way to the right side of the board. Likewise, the Bishop on the King's right now has an open line to move along the diagonal from its initial position all the way to the left side of the board. In the opening part of the game, much of the strategy goes toward opening lines so that the pieces on the back rank can get past the pawns and out into the battlefield. Many opening moves, called "gambits' will sacrifice a pawn or other piece in order to open a line for another piece to move out and attack.
