How are radio waves used to find the speed of a moving object?

By using an phenomenon called the Doppler Effect, which causes waves (e.g. radio, light, sound) that are reflected off a moving object (or emitted by a source on a moving object) to shift frequency proportionally to the speed of the object.

  1. if the object is moving towards the observer the waves shift to a higher frequency
  2. if the object is moving away from the observer the waves shift to a lower frequency
The speed detector (e.g. RADAR gun) uses a method called heterodyning to "beat" the original transmitted radio waves with the received radio waves that reflected back from the object to generate a "difference frequency" that will be proportional to the relative speed of the object to the observer. This "difference frequency" is then fed to a frequency counter circuit and the result is scaled to be displayed in the correct units of speed that the user needs.

For objects that emit the waves themselves (e.g. stars, galaxies) it is necessary to find spectral lines of known elements or compounds and measure how much the frequency of these spectral lines have shifted from their known standard frequency. If sound waves emitted by a vehicle (e.g. train whistle) you must somehow know the frequency of the sound source on the vehicle when it isn't moving (this may or may not be possible).

Why don't they show Snow White at Radio City Music Hall on TV you heard there was a problem many years ago regarding the dwarfs.would you know what happened?

If you look at a website dedicated in honor of the late Richard Browne (Prince Charming in the Live Radio Music Hall version of Snow White) where it talks about the masks and their construction..... It talks about how the masks were reconstructed to hold up better against time and how they would better show off the colorful characters for the play. The site gives reference to the fact that the new construction's unfortunate side effect was an almost vacuum seal that caused many of the dancing "seven dwarves" to hyperventilate, so they tried to correct the problem. (Didn't say whether they fixed it or not.)

I wish they would play it on TV again, too! I came across the above site while searching for a copy to buy my little sister since our old TV-taped copy was long lost when we were younger. My sister is learning disabled and I think she honestly watched it until it died, hehe. She continuously remembers it anytime she sees anything related to "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves."

How do you remove to radio to an 03 Mazda Protege?

Get the 'U' shaped radio removal tools (Wal-Mart or auto parts store just a few dollars). Follow the directions or: Squeeze the tool enough to insert the two ends (at the same time) into the two holes on the far left (right) of the radio face plate until they lock in (about 1-1.5 inches). Then do the same thing on the other side. Grasping both tools at the same time push in to the center and pull out. Then unplug the antennae and other connections and you are done.

In an RCA STAV-3880 receiver purchased from Radio Shack how can one get a schematic to identify resistors R619 and R621?

It may take some searching but try these three ways:

Get in to your local Radio Shack when they aren't busy and talk to the staff. Most of the staff there have a personal interest in electronics and if you get lucky, you'll find one that may have information to help you.

Next, try telephone calls and emails to RCA. Even if they only release circuit diagrams to dealers, you might be able to talk to someone who can let you know the values of the resistors you are after.

Finally, find a forum that discusses electronic repairs and equipment. Get the right forum and there will be someone who may have detailed knowledge of the product.

Happy hunting.

What is the default radio code on a 1989 jaguar 5 digit number?

Hello, Jamison here, Some cars have radios that are aimed at preventing theft, A default code is needed when the radio loses its CONSTANT power supply from the battery, This can be from the battery going DEAD for any reason it may have,or from the battery or radio being removed from the car. The radio will not come on until the code is entered. this is to keep someone from stealing your radio and installing it in another car. If it is the original radio for your car contact jaguar they have the code. If you bought the radio used, contact the person you bought it from. Good luck, Jamison

What is the frequency range of a microwave?

The "microwave" range of radio waves is defined as frequencies between 3 - 300 GHz.

But the question says " a " microwave, so we suspect it's talking about the box

you use to heat the leftover meat loaf.

The microwave oven operates in the Industrial/Scientific/Medical frequency band,

at or near 2,450 MHz. (So, technically, it isn't a 'microwave' at all, since that frequency

is below the range defined as 'microwave'. Guess it should be called a "UHF Oven".)

Your Clock Radio Dial in 1997 Pontiac Sunfire wont stay on have to hit it then it comes on how to you fix this problem?

Hitting it is not going to fix it - that will only make matters worse. A possible problem is a loose connection inside the radio or in the dash. Remove the radio and check all its wiring and the connecting wiring that leads to the radio. You'll need an Ohmeter.
