How easy or hard is it to replace the clutch on a 1995 Acura Integra?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It isn't a job for the backyard mechanic.

It's not easy, an when you do it get the good stuff. Try to lighten you own fly wheel, " It can be done on a brake lath" get a new [pressure plate, release bearing an throw out bearing, an clutch plate. Excdy makes a dandy clutch . or a oem relpacement but the stage 1 or 2 is worth the money. ... it's not hard or easy, it just takes time. Car must be on a ramp or on blocks up high. You have to take out the drive axle on the power side, brakes lower ball joint. an at least the tran case if not whole tran.

Why is the automatic seatbelt on the passenger side of a 91 Acura Integra GS stuck in the unrestrained position?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

My owner manual says "that there is a 'torx head' screw driver with a 'palm wheel' that you put together and 'wheel' the position of the sealt belt back to correct position and use the seat belt manually". The place to 'wheel it back' is on the 'b' pillar, at the bottom, behind a plastic plug. Take off the plastic plug and 'wheel' the seat balt mechanism back. The 'b'pillar is the cars '2nd' pillar right next to your head as you drive. The 'A' pillar is where you r outside mirrors are attached. Hence the 'c' pillar holds the rear window in place. This may seem dumb to mention but it took me 10 years to find out an answere to "what are these pillar things".

AnswerThere are two types of problems I can think of: electrical and mechanical.

To see if it's mechanical, while the door is closed, push the seat belt back a ways (you don't have to go all the way...turning that corner is HARD!). Then open the door. If it goes forward on it's own, it isn't the motor. If it doesn't go forward, open the side panel (behind the door) and check the motor. Make sure the wires are still connected, and good. Apply a twelve volt power source to the motor (in case a wire's cut elsewhere). If it moves at all, the motor is good. If it doesn't move, replace the motor.

As for electrical....that's complicated. First, get a voltmeter and open the side panel (if it's not already!). Make sure the door is shut, and I will assume the seat belt is in the forward position. Stick the voltmeter to the leads on the motor (it doesn't really matter which), and turn the ignition to the electrical position (not to start, just so the radio or what have you comes on). If you get a voltage reading, good! If you don't, you're not getting electricity to the motor. Now open the door, and check your reading. Agian, if you get a reading, excellent. If both of these are successful, the motor is most likely bad, if not...more troubleshooting.

Now, the way this motor works is that it has two leads. You apply positive and negative voltage one way, and the motor retracts the belt. You apply it the opposite way (ie, switch the leads), it goes forward. The way your car does this is with a complicated relay. On testing relays, the Haynes Automotive Repair Manual (Acura Integra 1990-1993, Legend 1991-1995) states the following: "To test a typical four-terminal normally open relay, connect an ohmmeter to the two terminals of the power circuit - the meter will indicate no continuity(ed-infinite resistance) until battery power and ground are conneced to the two terminals of the control circuit, then the relay will click and continuity will be indicated."--section 12.4

So basically to test the relay, hook up your ohmmeter to the terminals of the power circuit (it should be marked), then use jumper wires (not jumper cables - TOTALLY different!) to put power to the control circuit on the relay. You should hear a click, and continuity should be indicated on the ohmmeter. IF the relay DOESN'T click, try switching the wires around on the control circuit...on some relays, the polarity matters. If the relay test fails, replace the relay.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure which relay controls the automatic seat belts...it's not in my manual.

Another place to look for the problem is the onboard computer which controls all this, which should be located under the passenger side, behind the side panel (underneath the glove box). Check you connections (especially if you've been having other problems), if they're not problematic, pull the CPU out. Now the way the CPU is held together is by mashing a metal lip down over the case, to hold it on. You're going to have to pry it up to get a look at the circuit board and all its glory. Once you've *carefully* pried off the casing, check the board , both back and front, for burn spots. This indicates something got blown, and should be replaced. If this is the case, you'll likely have to replace the entire module (unless you have a lot of electrical/circuit type knowledge).

Whew. I think that's all I know on this. Hope it helps.

AnswerI just want to add to this just in case anyone is having similar problems with seat belts. Check your manual... I believe there is a lifetime warranty on seat belts so take it in to a dealer if that is so. Don't make more trouble for yourself if you have to. AnswerI don't know if it helps, but I have them on my '91 Ford Probe and the cable and buckle actually jam in the rail, and the motor will still be fine.

How do you install a clutch in a 1991 Acura Integra LS?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This can not be answered easily.

Checkout g2ic.com There are several threads on the process.

In summation you will need to remove both axles, shifter linkage, transmission mount, rear engine mount, engine to transmission bolts, bottom stiffeners, a few wiring harness connections and several small brackets.

Be sure to replace the throwout bearing and have the flywheel machined. A new clutch cable is a good idea since they tend to wear out.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1990 Acura Integra?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Correction: to remove the alternator, first you have to remove the master cylinder, and take off the wheel guard by the wheel well(maybe 3 plug in screws) so that you can get at the alternator bolt. Once you get the upper and lower bolts off, use something to pry it out with (2x4 works well), then carefully slide it out, tight squeeze but can be done, and there you go. At the most, maybe 2-3 hrs.

Correct correction, don't remove the master cylinder, you have to bleed the brakes and getting to the mounting hardware and removing the brake lines can be disaster. I have been a mechanic for over 30 years. Do this instead;

remove the left wheel-remove the upper ball joint cover, two 10mm nuts cover the castle nut, remove the castle nut. Remove the strut assembly bolt from the lower control arm, that will give you the necessary travel to remove the driveshaft, that's what is really you need to do to remove and drop the alternator out. Now remove the lower mounting bolt from the wishbone from the lower control arm, this will allow more travel to remove the driveshaft. Remove the upper control arm ball joint nut. You have to release the tension of the upper ball joint to the upper control arm, one way is to use an expensive removal tool or thread the castle nut back on the ball joint stud just enough to protect the threads from being damaged. The object here is to pop the ball joint stud out of the control arm, this is when you have to be careful-I used a lead faced hammer or you can use a brass faced hammer, remember the idea here is to protect the threads. It will take a couple of brave licks to free the balljoint stud from the spindle. I also removed the brake hose securing attachment to allow more freedom for the brake hose. Remove the castle nut from the end of the driveshaft, it's gonna take a big socket, be careful to use a punch to get the locking face of the nut away from the groove of the shaft, take your time and move with small hits on the punch. When that is done remove the driveshaft. I will take some prying from the inner half shaft, be careful not to damage any of the soft rubber boots surrounding the CV joints. The left side of the drive shaft is in two pieces, the inner shaft stays put. Swing the spindle assembly toward the rear of the car and that will give you enough clearance to remove the shaft and finagle the alternator out.Remember to get some cotter pins, if you can save the old ones, good. Don't forget to relearn the computer idle speed calibration, I did the first time and had to disconnect the battery and relearn the computer.

Why does a Transmission slip when its cold?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Type your answer here... Most likely answer is that you have a badly clogged transmission filter. When the fluid is cold it is thick and may not be able to get through the filter, starving, the pump, etc., and causing the trans. to slip, just like it was low on fluid. As the fluid warms up, it gets thinner, and is more able to get through the clogged filter, allowing the trans. to operate "normally". Hopefully a filter/fluid change will do the trick. (should be a little less than $100) Don't delay in getting this done. If you procrastinate you will have a much higher probability of needing a total rebuild/ replacement of your tranny. BIG bucks! )~: ,

What will happen if no oil is in motor will you need to replace engine if it does not turnover?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

...technically, no you won't need to replace the motor. What will happen is that all the moving parts that depend on fresh oil for lubrication will suffer from its absence, with increased wear (same if there is oil but it's overdue for replacement due to thermal breakdown or contamination). But technically assuming that it won't turn over, a motor rebuild would probably be in order. Not certainly because it might not turn over for other reasons.

It's a lot cheaper to get a working motor and have it put in your car, though, because a motor can have hundreds of thousands of miles on it and still run. A rebuild can easily cost $2k or more to have it done by a competent mechanic.

What does it sound like when your shocks are going?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

As far as what they sound like, normally you hear nothing unless a shock is broken. There are however warning signs of worn shocks or struts. STEERING

Worn shocks and struts can allow excessive body roll when turning, which affects the vehicle's ability to safely steer around objects in the road. STOPPING

Worn shocks and struts can allow too much weight transfer to the front wheels during braking, which could result in a measurable increase in stopping distance. STABILITY

Worn shocks and struts can allow excessive roll, sway and bounce while the vehicle is in motion, which reduces the driver's control.

Why 94 integra wont warm up?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

there are two possibilities. in both the outside temp is (very) low and:

1. your thermostat is stuck on open.

2. you have no thermostat.

In both situations the car will eventually warm up rather slow and temperature will decrease proportionally with increasing the speed.
