Moderate reactions include: hives, rapid swelling, redness and extreme itchiness. Sever reactions include: vomiting,diarrhea ,staggering, rapid drop in blood pressure, swelling of the larynx, cardiovascular collapse or death. Yes, a childrens Benedryl is safe to give. But the dog should be taken to a veterinarian if there is swelling, the dog is lethargic, painful, not wanting to eat or drink, or if the stinger is still embedded.

OK ... It is time to get out of the "Old Wives Tale" age. Both of the above statements are incorrect as written. Dogs can be allergic, not to grass so much as to the grass pollen. It is, indeed, one of the more common allergens. Eating grass does not in any way fix or help contact dermatitis or any other allergy. It should, however, be treated per your vets instruction. Left untreated it can degenerate to worse, and can be most uncomfortable for your dog. Eating grass is something dogs do .... they just like it. It has nothing to do w/ the stomach hurting, or any other illness. Not to say they won't puke it up, but I have two dogs who nibble regularly, esp oat grasses which are quite sweet. They don't vomit it back up. They are both healthy, active and never bored. My third dog is not interested in grass. Maybe he is the odd one?

If a bee has left its stinger in the skin, remove it (this may require tweezers). If the person who was stung has a bee allergy, he or she may suffer from anaphylactic shock and will have to be treated with an epi-pen (which hopefully they carry as a precaution). Otherwise, it's not that serious.

Obviously a person will not be aware that they have a severe allergic reaction (i.e. anaphylaxis) to a sting until they are stung for the first time - so they will not have an epipen. Symptoms are any or all of: difficulty breathing, increased pulse rate, face flushed &/or swelling, nausea.

If you suspect anaphylaxis then do not hang around wondering whether it will pass: phone for an ambulance immediately and tell the despatcher the problem.

Poodles and Morkies. I live with a Morkie named Cookie.(Morkie-Maltese, Yorkie) Cookie is the cutest dog in the world and is actually on Prozac! I have allergies and asthma and he does not bother me. Very cute, a hybrid, sweet, and hypoallergenic. I highly recommend a Morkie!

There are some breeds of cats which are allergy-friendly.

Allergies to cats are set off when you around cats because cats groom themselves right? Yeah, and in their saliva are special enzymes which create allergies to some people, and some breeds have less enzymes in their saliva. So If you groom your cat regularly, or get a certain breed of cat with less enzymes in its saliva, you should be good.

Additionally, over the counter antihistamines can help stop the allergic reaction before it starts. Claritin, Allegra & Zyrtec are all available at your pharmacy. One must take these daily & regularly as a preventative measure if a cat is in the home. If you are visiting someone with a cat, you can take the antihistamine within a few hours of the visit to ensure it has gone into your system.

If the reaction is bad, Benedryl is really the best solution (liquid works faster should you need it). Benedryl is a short acting antihistamine (usually about 4 hours) and will make you drowsy or even put you to sleep. However, it has pretty good results in combating a mild reaction.

Note: If you have a severe reaction (anaphylaxic shock) you should call 911 immediately.

Sort of. There's something called allergen immunotherapy that gradually gets your immune system "used to" the allergy proteins produced by ... well, any source, really. It's a long process that's almost never covered by insurance, so unless you really REALLY want a cat, and one of the hypoallergenic varieties won't do, and you've got money to burn, you might be better off just not having a cat.

It's always best to take your cat to the vet, first. However, vets have been known to suggest benadryl for treating light causes of allergies in cats, at 1 milligram , every 7-8 hours. This should not be used for severe symptoms or cases.

its not necessarily bad for them, however it tend to get stuck to the roof of their mouth if they each too much too quickly which will cause them to gag to try to get it off.

My cat has always enjoyed catnip. He recently got over his second bout of pancreatitis. A few days later, he started a really bad cough which so far, we can only attribute to a bronchial infection (vet and myself). He also has been asthmatic AND has allergies to some moulds (cladosporium) which is high in the late fall.

Recently he has started throwing extremely bad allergic fits (licking, scratching, head shaking, running from one end of the house to the other, jumping up and lying on anything smooth. He normally does this with an allergic reaction, but not this bad.

Normally, there is catnip on their (him and his sister Alices') climbing toy so it was always out. Last night, after playing with a catnip mouse in bed, before sleep (his normal ritual) he threw one of the worst fits I've ever seen, including yowling, up and down stairs (which exhausts him with his laboured breathing). It scared the bejesus out of me. He was up all night, but stayed on his pillow and would not touch the carpet.

In the morning, I put some more catnip out for them on their climbing toy after vacuuming it. About 15 minutes later, he had another fit.

I'm not sure if it's a combination of the flovent and catnip, the allergy pills and catnip, his anti-biotic and catnip or what (the poor little guy is on so many meds right now), but he hasn't even had much itching since I took it away. Perhaps he just developed an allergy to it due to the situation he's in.

They are only good if they have human hair like a yorkie or some type of dog like that. If they have dog hair then no they are not good for people with allergies

You are probably actually allergic to cat saliva. because your cat cleans herself by licking her fur, there is dried saliva on her fur. (lovely thought isn't it) it flakes off and you breathe it. your body over reacts to the foreigh substance, and hence your alergy. You may be able to reduce your alergy problems by bathing the cat regularly, then again, depending on the cat, that solution could be worse than the problem.
