The RT-CRC1 is a Cross Band Repeater Controller. It is just a controller that is used to build up a cross band repeater system with 2 units of handheld radio. The radio operating frequencies are NOT related to the RT-CRC1 controller. You can adjust the frequencies of the 2 connected handheld radios to any channels.

In the USA, Amateur radio operator licenses are granted by the Federal Communications

Commission (FCC), just as radio and TV station licenses are.

There are a few different classes (levels) of license available, with somewhat

different privileges for each class, but each is granted with the same procedure:

The individual takes a multiple-choice written test, and is granted a license (and

a call sign) if he scores 74% or better on the test. The test questions cover the

FCC rules and regulations associated with the Amateur Radio service, and also

some principles related to electronics and operating procedure. A good place to

Field Day is a contest, an emergency preparedness exercise, a public relations demonstration, a great event for clubs and a fun way to get on the air. Hams set up away from commercial power and normal installations for 24 hours in June.

It is always the fourth full weekend in June.

The main objective is to work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. Field Day is open to all amateurs in the areas covered by the ARRL/RAC Field Organizations and countries within IARU Region 2. DX stations residing in other regions may be contacted for credit, but are not eligible to submit entries.

No radio signals pass through metal. But depending on their wavelength,

they may diffract more or less efficiently around the edges and be detectable

on the other side.

Some transmission modes send no power to the antenna if you are not speaking. If the antenna light is sensing radio frequency energy, it will come on only when you speak.

This applies to single sideband (SSB). AM and FM transmitters send power to the antenna all the time.

Improve the antenna.

Try the Radio Relay website (see related link at the bottom). I know I was able to listen to Johnston County on there (as well as Wake, Durham, and Orange), so I'm pretty sure Onslow would be on there, as well. At a very minimum, you should be able to get something from Jacksonville.

In many countries, it is possible to purchase FM transceivers that do not need a license. These are intended for voice walkie-talkie style communication and they use frequency bands reserved for the purpose.

All other transmitters need a licence and it would be illegal to transmit in the FM broadcast band (88 - 108 MHz in many countries) without the appropriate license.

There are several stages to this answer. 1. Are you sure it is a Ham Radio? More likely, it is an illegal over amplified CB. 2. To limit interference you can buy small clip-on RF Chokes at Radio Shack. One would clip the around the power and antenna wires going into the set looping several wraps of wire through the middle. 3. If it is in deed a Ham Radio you might approarch the owner politely and ask for help. Most Ham operators are eager to assist you in resolving the issue. 4. The importnat thing to remember is that if the transmitter is functioning properly and under legal conditions, the most likely problem is with YOUR TV. Many newer consumer products are poor at rejecting undesired signals. This is often demonstrated by the problem only occurring on one TV or device, but not on others of the same type, but different brand or model. If only one TV is affected, it is likely the TVs fault not the radio transmitter. If every device has the same issue, it may be a transmitter problem.

I don't know about rare but I just won one on eBay for £3.00 + £5.50pp so they aren't commanding much money on the second hand market.

Most emergency agencies are quite happy when hams volunteer to communicate for them.

A good example is in the destruction of the World Trade Center where the power and phone lines were taken out. The police could not contact fire, or even their own officers, and the fire departments could not contact the police, or their own fire engines. Hams, or Amateur Radio Operators, came to the scene by the hundreds - each totally a volunteer using their own emergency rigs. The rigs consist of at least a handheld VHF or UHF two-way radio and a bunch of batteries for it connected and kept in a back pack or belt pack.

There would be hams on scene, and other hams at the police stations, the fire stations, the New York city disaster teams, and so forth. These hams would pass on information by radio that the emergency responders could not.

This is very typical. Hams respond to many disasters to provide all sorts of communications for the local emergency responders. Some, like in the World Trade Center disaster, travelled, using their own money, from other states, even from far away states, just to help the emergency responders. This same response occurs after hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions (Mt St Helens in Washington State for example), search and rescue situations, and so forth.

In general terms one way communications is familiar to most as broadcasting. FCC 97.113 pertains to licensed amateur radio operators and prohibits amateurs from using their stations to broadcast messages or content in a formal manner. Amateur radio operators licenses permit a two way communications between stations, sort of a one to one connection, not one to many.

Amplitude shift keying changes the height/power of the transmitted signal without altering the frequency. Frequency shift keying changes the frequency of the transmission without altering the height/power of the transmitted signal.

Morse code is an example of amplitude keying where the amplitude is 0 or 100%.

RTTY teleprinter uses FSK with two frequencies and the codes that represent text characters are sent with patterns of the two frequencies.

You must file an Environmental Impact Statement with the EPA before construction begins. You must obtain a construction permit from the airport zoning authority

The FAA must be notified and it must be registered with the FCC

Approval must be obtained from the airport manager

The FAA must approve any antenna structure that is higher than 20 feet

What kind of antenna? First you need to decide on what type; A really simple answer to this question is to cut a wire to the resonant 1/4 wavelength. This antenna would be 3 5/16 inches of wire.

To decrease the resonant frequency of any tuned circuit, increase the inductance and/or increase the capacitance.

In amateur radio, when someone asks what your QTH is, they are asking for your position, usually in latitude and longitude.

There's only one US president, and he isn't one.

The Diode only lets the current one way, the cap smooths it out, and the resistor gives you something to take a voltage reading across. it will be kind of sawtooth, but will have the general envelope shape.
