If they are coming into the house through a light fixture, a chalk line around the entrance will discourage them. Also, cleaning up the source of their interest and wipe the counter so that their path disappears.

No! It would probably get in the air and cause a sneezing fit or respiratory infection. I have two female pet rats that used to sneeze nonstop due to the bedding at their former owners home and have realized that even strong perfumes and smoke near their cage can cause respiratory infections.

No I use cage liners instead of bedding, dust free litter for their litter box (Critter Litter, available online or at PetCo), and keep them in my bedroom so that they are not exposed to smoke or ect. They never sneeze and have been healthy since I rescued them as well as very happy!(:

That would not be real effective. Contact sprays are cheap enough to where there is no need to make it yourself. Borax type products are a stomach poison that is ingested because the ants track through it dry & then ingest while grooming. It is not readily absorbed through their bodies.

To keep ants from even approaching the fridge, its best to always be sure that any spills (e.g., milk, broken egg, etc.) or food deposits of any kind are wiped up immediately and that the floor around the fridge is always clean. Ants follow a food trail. If there's no trace of a food product, ants won't go near a fridge.

Yes, I believe it can float momentarily, however it will eventually drown. Take rivers/streams for instance: bugs fall in frequently and float, but eventually drown because they cannot get out. Not a fun experience for caterpillars or any other bug.
