What Tree has round green fruit not apples?

Here in Kansas we have a alien tree species called hedge apple or osage orange. The fruit is about the size of a grapefruit with a rough pebbly surface that stays green. It is NOT edible even though it is related to oranges and is in fact a kind of citrus. I have also heard it called trifoliate orange. When young the seedlings have 3" long, sharp thorns that makes it useful for planted hedges that will restrict livestock and trespassers.

Is grey mold on top of crab-apple jelly harmful?

When I was a kid (a long, long time ago), my mother would scrape off the mold and serve the jelly. I'm 58, so you know it didn't kill me. However, the modern advice is anything that was canned should be thrown away when there is mold, loss of color, cloudy liquid (as in pickles), or loss of a thick consistency in jams and jellies. Today, I throw away any jam or jelly with mold.

Why is my fresh cut Christmas tree sprouting new shoots all over the tree?

Cutting a tree stimulates the production of plant growth hormone. That can cause shoots on trees if they are kept watered and get enough sunlight.

This is in addition to the answer above, but our Christmas tree is doing this right now! I've never seen a cut tree do this. About a week ago I noticed what looked like tiny pine cones appearing all over it and a week later they are sprouting! We got it a month ago, have kept it watered & it is by large open windows during the day & bright lamps at night. I'm pretty amazed. Now I want to know how to keep the tree alive via getting some roots off some branches & growing in a pot in the same spot. Then eventually replanting as many as possible!
