What are the advantages and disadvantages of modern medicines?

The advantages of using alternative medicines are that there are not side effects (usually). Alternative medicine can heal the body completely. But this takes time. Alternative medicine looks at the person, not just symptoms and main complaints.

A patient may have health issues that took decades to create, it takes time to reverse those issues. Also, alternative medicine puts the responsibility of health on the shoulders of the patient. Meaning the patient may have to stop certain toxic behaviors, change their diet or incorporate exercise into their life. It is much easier for patients to take a medication and abuse the health care system then to take responsibility and change their predicament.

So advantages are: it works, the patient becomes healthier in mind and body and there are no or little side effects. Also, in comparison- even with insurance, alternative medicines are cheaper in the long run. If you go towards alternative medicine, usually, you will only need to see one person for all your ailments.

Disadvantages are: the patient has to work with a practitioner to become healthier, it takes time, a patient has to change their life and behaviors and it cannot address a persons emergency health needs.

Has Ayurveda become a means to gain foreign money?

Type your answer here...

Ayurvedic wisdom offers life-enhancing practices as well as herbal medicinal preparations for the health and well being of the whole human being: body, mind, and soul. It is much more than just a system to treat symptoms or physical illness.

Ayurveda describes three fundamental energies that govern our health and well being, and are seen both in our internal and external environments. Called 'doshas' these three energies are known as:

  • Vata (Air/Wind)
  • Pitta (Fire/Sun)
  • Kapha (Earth & Water)

Ayurveda sees these primary forces in a unique combination in every individual, and as relating to the characteristics of our mind and body. Every individual has a unique proportion of these three forces that shapes our nature.

These doshas also have the characteristic of being: movement (Vata), transformation (Pitta) and structure (Kapha). We are all made up of unique proportions of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. The ratios of the doshas vary in each individual. Because of this, Ayurveda sees each person as a special mixture that accounts for our diversity.

Ayurveda gives us a model to look at each individual as a unique makeup of the three doshas (and sub-doshas), and thereby design treatment protocols that specifically address a person's health challenges.

Herbs are often recommended to supplement the nutritional requirements on a regular basis to build and maintain a healthy physiology. As some of the Ayurvedic herbs are now recognized to be the most potent and powerful adaptogens on the planet -- and since stress is now known to be a significant factor in over 80 percent of all illnesses -- these herbs are essential in any health program designed to promote and maintain a healthy human body.

When any of the doshas become aggravated, thereby upsetting the natural harmony for the individual, Ayurveda suggests specific lifestyle and nutritional guidelines as well as specific medicinal herbs to assist the individual in reducing and rebalancing the dosha that has become excessive or out of balance.

Ayurveda goes into great detail to describe the medicinal attributes of many herbs and their correct usage to compliment and hasten the healing process, and to strengthen the body's organs and systems.

Where is bilberry found in India?

Don't know where you can get bilberry extract in India sorry.

However, you could certainly try mulberry extract from black mulberries as they grow in India so you should have no problem getting hold of the extract. Black mulberry has the dark pigments [anthocyanins] that bilberries and some other dark berries [e.g. blueberries] have. Thus if you could not find bilberry extract but you can find black mulbery extract and blueberry extract you could try those instead.

You should also eat plenty of red, orange, yellow and green vegetables and fruits rich in carotinoids [particularly lutein and zeaxanthin] and also vitamin A, such as.......bell peppers, carrots, apricots, cantaloupe melon, mango, broccoli, spinach, curly kale, swiss chard, collard, peas, corn, etc. Egg yolks, particularly from corn fed hens, may be a particularly good [bioavailable] source of lutein. Eat also tomatoes rich in lycopene. And eat pumpkin seeds rich in zinc.

Stay awake from cigarettes and other forms of pollution.....they are bad for the eyes. And more pollution = more antioxidants needed, generally speaking. Wear UV protective sunglasses when you go out in strong sun.

It might also be worth taking coQ10 as a supplement.

Ginkgo biloba might also help if there is poor circulation to the eyes. But check with a doctor or pharmacist first before taking this if you are on any prescribed medications or have any underlying medical condition.

Keep regular eye checks and keep up to date with your prescription. Try not to strain your eyes....wear your glasses at all times when you need to, and don't use the computer for too long or watch too much TV without taking regular breaks. You should see an eye specialist if you haven't already done so if you are having any specific problems or concerns.
