Can you tan with the birth control patch on?

Not being totally familiar with the "patch", I can only comment regarding the UV effects. If the patch is able to transmit the light through to your skin then more than likely there will be interaction between the UV light and the time release drug. Just recall the effect sunlight has on exposed paint, plastics like the blue tarps for coverings, vinyl siding. All of these degrade principally due to chemical changes of these materials. Some of these breakdowns can be likely candidates for inducing cancer on the skin as well as permeating into your body to cause other harmful effects. Better safe than sorry. Your skin changes color because it's trying to protect itself from the harmful effects of UV. Realize that most drugs are sensitive to light or temperature and that's why they are packed in shaded containers,or other protection to keep them from breaking down due to environmental exposure.

What is the best time of the month to avoid pregnancy and have protected sex?

Answer

This question has been answered several times....

During your period is the safest. Next safest is no more than 5 days after the end of your period with each day past the end of your period being more risky than the next.

I don't advocate timing the "before" days of your period without the use of some physical indicator. The "before" days are very error prone because the exact onset of your period varies from month to month. If your period is late and you use the "before" method you may be having sex during your fertile time!

Don't take chances because you are never "kind of" pregnant. It is always, "Yes I am." or "No I'm not."

Answer

Hi,

There is no safe time unfortunately. That is simply a myth. The only way to avoid pregnancy is by using protection EVERY TIME.

Answer

Actually, both of these answers are slightly incorrect. During your period is not the "safest" time to have intercourse. If you have very short cycles, long periods, or if you are experiencing annovulatory "spotting" (which is not a true period), you could conceive a child from intercourse during your "period"*. The surest way to know the "safest" time to have intercourse is by charting your waking temperatures with a Basal Body Temperature Thermometer and keeping track of the quality of your cervical fluid. This is called the "sympto-thermal method" of Natural Family Planning, or the Fertility Awareness Method ("FAM"). Both your waking temperature and the quality of your cervical fluid change with the influx of certain hormones. This gives you the ability of knowing when you will likely ovulate and when you have ovulated. Because you cannot conceive a child after you have ovulated, the "safest" time to have intercourse is at least four days after the calculated ovulation date and before the onset of a new cycle (during the "luteal phase" of your cycle, which stays constant in duration). Keep in mind that it takes diligence in learning the method for this calculation to be effective, but, when practiced correctly, the method has a failure rate of approximately 2% per year, which is the same as the failure rate for condoms. This failure rate is even smaller if you abstain for longer periods of time and only have intercourse on the "safest" of days (in the middle of the luteal phase). For more information and verification of these statistics, see Toni Weschler's Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

*Note: there is a difference between conceiving during your period and conceiving from intercourse during your period. The first is not possible, but the second IS possible (since sperm could survive until ovulation).

Why are most birth control methods marketed towards and designed for females?

Birth control methods are aimed towards females because females are the ones responsible for carrying offspring. Males are responsible for abstaining and using protection. They don't have the responsibility that women have in this case.

How come people can have multiple abortions yet still have the opportunity to have babies i know a couple who have had more than 5 why not get fixed?

I am probably not the person who needs to answer this but when I seen it I thought I would give my opinion...The government gives them that choice which in a case like that it is wrong ...abortion should not be allowed to be used as a form of birth control. But as we know it now abortion is just a way that people think that they can use so they do not have to be responsible in their own wrong doings. I would tell that couple to put their stuff back in their pants until they can be responsible. One day they will have to answer for what they have done.

Your answer has nothing to do with the question. (:

What are your options if your scalp hair has fallen out since you started using ortho lo birth control in the last two months?

Birth control pills can cause hair loss. Generally, it takes about 3 months for your body to adjust to the new influx of hormones. Often, your estrogen/progestin levels will even out, hair loss will stop, and all will be fine. However, there are birth control pills that are "notorious" causing hair loss (Alesse, ortho tri-cylen lo, estrostep...) because they either have low estrogenic activity or high androgenic activity- in that case, if your hair is continually affected, it would be certainly advisable to talk to your Ob-Gyn about different BC options.

Is Philippine Health Care a general or an individual issue?

All healthcare is a general and an individual issue. That is why the word equity has two meanings. On one hand it means to treat everyone the same. We require vaccinations before we let children into school in order to prevent disease and protect everyone. On the other hand, equity means to treat every situation individually. For example, in New Jersey you can have seven kidney transplants, but in Arizona you can only have one. The state makes medical policy. The federal government offers programs but the state decides the rules and how to implement it. If ethical questions interest you read "In a different voice" by Gillian. Joymaker rn

Im on my third week of pills but i got my period so should i take the regular pills or the sugar pills?

Continue taking pills on schedule. This is not unusual with modern birth control pills, which usually contain lower levels of hormones, especially when first starting a new regimen of pills.

It may take 2 to 3 months for your cycle to become regulated on the pill.

If you continue to experience problems such as breakthrough bleeding or spotting, consult your OB/GYN or physician.

What is renewed abstinence?

If you start taking the pill on your first day of your period when can one start to have unprotected sex?

When should you expect your next period if you started your pills on the first day of your period and you've used 3 weeks of pills and are currently on the last day of your sugar pills?

You should expect your period to arrive on or before the last day of the sugar pills. But sometimes you can arrive the next week after your sugar pills. It takes a while for BCP to get used to your body. This could be why you havent gotten your period.

How are the shot patch and IUD used as contraceptives?

The shot is an injection (called Depo-Provera) of hormones which you have every 12 weeks.

The Patch is like a Band-Aid which you stick on once a week for 3 weeks, then leave a week to allow a withdrawal bleed. It releases hormones which act as a contraceptive.

The IUD, also known as the coil, is inserted into the uterus to prevent conception and implantation. Some varieties also release hormones. Not usually suitable for women who have never been pregnant.

YOu need to discuss your contraceptive needs with your doctor, or family planning clinic to decide which will work best for you.

Can I be pregnant from pre-ejaculatory fluid with no penetration I am on my first month of birth control and was suppose to start my period yesterday and it hasn't started.?

What exactly do you mean by no penetration? If you mean he never put his penis into your vagina, then no, it's not possible for you to become pregnant. However, pre-cum CAN contain sperm, so it's possible to become pregnant from that. In any case, taking birth control screws up your period. Not only does it sometimes change the dates on which you get it, it also shortens the duration of it. If you didn't get yours right on time, I'm sure you're still fine. Just give it a little time.

What types of animal skins are used for condoms?

Several types of animal skins have been used throughout history for condoms. Before the materials we now use for condoms, most were made of either fabrics, papers, sheep skin, or of lamb intestines. Later introduced were condoms of other materials like leather, but for the msot part, animal intestines were used until other substitutes were developed. Rubber condoms were introduced in 1855, latex in 1920. So, in answer to your question, animal skins such as sheep skin or animal intestines were the most commonly used condoms made of animal parts.

Which method of birth control might be controversial?

The IUD was controversial because of safety reasons, but it's still being used today.

How does emergency contraception reduce?

Emergency contraception reduces the risk of pregnancy primarily by preventing or delaying ovulation, which means that an egg is not released for sperm to fertilize. It may also work by altering the movement of sperm or egg within the reproductive tract, making it less likely for fertilization to occur. Additionally, some emergency contraceptive methods can change the uterine lining, making it less suitable for implantation if fertilization does occur. However, it is important to note that emergency contraception is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse.
