How do you unlock a 1990 BMW 5 series with dead battery?
I had this problem recently with my 1990 BMW 520i after I left the lights on and drained the battery. The manual override lock position didn't work on either doors. I was able to unlock the trunk normally. The best solution I found was to use jumper cables attached to a non-running car and then ground the - (black) side to metal in my trunk and touch the + (red) end to the trunk light. The trunk light I'm referring to is in the center on the ceiling of the trunk and has a plastic cover that you'll need to temporarily remove. After connecting power to the light I could tell it was powering by the light bulb illuminating and I had a second person unlock the car. Apparently this method puts enough power in the system to power the locks. I didn't have any blown fuses or other electical problems after accomplishing these steps.

On a BMW 525 do you always have to replace the brakes and rotors at the same time?
No. But here's the grocery list. If new pads are going on, the rotors should at least be turned. If the rotors are being replaced with new ones, putting on the old pads doesn't make sense. Get new ones. If it's just a service and the rotors need to be turned, again, it doesn't make sense to put the old pads back on. It may be cheaper to "skip a step" or something, but in the long run it isn't worth it. Safety issues aside, you'll have to replace something sooner or later. No good mechanic will tell you anything but what is on this list. (He may say "yes" instead of the "no" you got here, but his reasoning will match what you have just read.
How can you get a new BMW car key?
The main BMW dealers seem to be quite reasonable, just take your log book in and they can make one for you without an original as all the key patterns and immobilizer codes are stored on the BMW system.
I only paid about £30 for a new coded key for my E36.
What could cause my BMW to overheat?
BMW models before the mid-1990s typically overheated because of failing fan clutches. The fan clutch is in the hub of the engine driven fan . It uses thick silicone oil and a bimetal strip controlling a internal valve to allow the fan to slip more when cold. Over time a poor seal allows the silicone oil to leak out, resulting in a fan that appears to be working but spins too slowly to cool the engine when hot. Models after the mid-1990s improved the fan clutch seal, but many engines were shipped with water pumps that fail without external symptoms. BMW changed from a metal impeller to a lighter, more accurately shaped, non-corroding plastic composite impeller. With long exposure to hot BMW-specified antifreeze this composite would degrade, eventually breaking apart into the engine. Once the impeller breaks the engine rapidly overheats. Combined with the computer-controlled engine temperature indicator that holds the needle in the middle position until the engine starts to overheat, the driver has very little warning before the engine is dangerously overheated.

2 ways : 1-Take out the back seat by lifting front edge of seat exposing the battery. 2- There is one positive cable post under the hood on drivers side near the fuse box.
