On the right side of the engine bay (standing in front of the engine is a reservoir. Most 745 bmw's use a specific CHF-11S synthetic hydraulic fluid. It should say so on the cap. VW and BMW dealers sell this fluid. You will need a quart for top ups. The cap has a level indicator. Make sure engine is cold befor refill. DO NOT USE ATF! It will go to the bottom of the pump and rack, gunk up everything and leak out everywhere resulting in expensive and unneccessary repairs. Hope this helps
