A bridge has three things to complete the foundation to keep it from collapsing. They are called spread footings, caissons and piles. It also has the deck itself.

There were 2 towers, and cables would be hanging from the towers. Hangers(or stringers) would be hanging from the cables. The hangers and the towers combined would hold up the deck which at the side, gets connected to the anchor. On top of the anchor is the anchorage, which holds up the cables from the sides.

Development Length is the shortest length needed for reinforcing bar so that the stresses can induced in the bar can increase from zero to the yield strength of the said bar. The development length is a function of the bar size, yield strength, concrete strength and other factors such as coating of the bar. Also, the development length of a bar is dependent to whether the bar is in tension or compression. Tension development lengths are larges than compression development lengths because in compression, the reinforcing bar gets some help from the concrete, while in tension it does not.

The Eitaibashi Bridge is a bridge in Tokyo, Japan. Although suspension bridges are among the longest bridges, and most are well-built, the design does include features that make them more susceptible to failure. Rather than a rigidly-connected skeleton, a cable bridge is held in place by its own weight, which maintains a constant tension.

The cables supporting the roadway are balanced, and if any fail, the change in weight can cause a complete collapse. Cables must be inspected regularly for corrosion, wear, or slippage.

Shifts in the foundation of any bridge can cause it to fall, but because there are fewer supports in the cable bridge, any change will tend to have greater effect.

High winds can cause structural failure of a poorly-designed bridge by causing swinging oscillations known as "aeroelastic flutter." This causes a twisting motion that can warp or crumble the bridge deck.

For all practical purposes, the span of a beam bridge should not be more than 250 feet.

The first bridges were built by nature in the form of trees falling across streams. The first bridges build by humans were also made of wood logs and were simple in design, but did not support much weight.
