USB Wireless Modem?

A modem is the device that allows you to connect to the Internet. A router uses wires to connects from the modem to other computers to share the Internet connection. A wireless router uses wires to connect to the modem but connects to the other computers through a wireless connection. A modem with a built in wireless router only uses wires to connect it to the internet source meaning you can place it any where in the house that has access to an Internet source.

How many MB are there in 1GB?

1000 X 1.8 = 1800 Mb (using conventional meaning of Giga, which is what hard drive manufacturers use in order to sell you less than advertised using the correct computer notation below)

1024x1.8 = 1843.2 MB is the correct answer using base 2 which is what most computer manufacturers use (1 GB of memory is 2^10 or 1024 MB of memory).

What is the data transmission rate in the fiber optic cable?

Bell labs has managed to break the Petabit barrier, they have achieved a speed of 15.5 Tbit/s over a single 7000 km fiber. Now one must keep in mind this was multiplexed over hundreds of channels and was a single mode cable.

The maximum realistic speed application on single mode fiber cable is about 10gb speed. There are standards for 100 gigabit over multimode fiber and single mode, but those are not widely in use at the moment.

My compter has a Slow buffering how can speed it up?

Simple. But you have many choices.

1. If you're using a type of internet such as Internet Explorer, that may be the reason. Even if it is Mozilla Firefox.

If you wish to change that type of internet, you can download 2 other types of internets.

The first is Mozilla Firefox. It is high speed for most computers.

Or (my favorite) Google Chrome. You can go straight to the Goggle Home Page and then by the top, right corner, it should say that you can download Google Chrome.

Google Chrome is amazing. It is HD + High Speed and totally amazing! :)

What is downstream bandwidth?

Upstream is how fast a host(user) Internet server sends data to the network. Ex When one plays a game ( hitting buttons etc) or types data in on the pc, that persons is sending data to the network. The network process this data at a certain speed. So how fast ones Internet service provider (ISP) sends a host(user) 's data to the network is called upstream and how fast the network send data to the ISP then to the host is called downstream.

What is a null modem cable?

A null modem cable is a cable which connects two computers directly. The connection is made using serial interface and actually requires no modem or phone line. These connections can be useful for some legacy applications, however due to the availability of low cost networking equipment null modem connections are now rarely used.

Do you need a wireless card in computer to use a wireless router?

Yes. There are loads of different ones on the market, from internal ones to external ones.

Personally I recommend external USB ones.

Internal ones are good too, but take up a PCI slot thatcould be given to something more worthwhile. Most home users cant install them. And, if and when you get a second desktop, you cant share the device.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of wireless internet connection?

It's usually cheaper, with about the same bandwidth, does not require as much planning and work spent on installation.

Suffers from EMI, walls, metal grids decrease the range dramatically.

Do you need a modem when using DSL?

You do not need a dial-up modem. However, you will need to either purchase or rent a DSL modem, which works differently from a dial-up modem, and is usually outside the computer.

Can you keep your phone and internet and drop your cable tv?

There are two ways that I know of that you can get your own internet connection without a phone line or cable TV.

1) With a public WiFi connection in a hot spot.

These are available in various locations inclduing pubs, cafes and certain phone boxes operated by BT in the UK provide WiFi access to passing compatible devices, however the coverage is limited and it is very expensive compared to...

2) Connecting a mobile phone or mobile modem to your computer.

The majority of these require a fixed term contract. Indeed, in the UK only Three offer a Pay As You Go option. The mobile network is much more available although unless you have access to a 3G signal it can be very slow. The disadvantages of this are that a monthly contract is required and if you are paying a fixed rate for a certain amount of bandwidth followed by a more expensive per megabyte rate you need to watch what you're downloading. If you can find a Pay As You Go operator with a reasonable unlimited broadband rate and can find a USB modem SIM-free then it can be very cost-effective with a one-off payment with only the charges for the bandwidth you use at a much cheaper rate than public WiFi hotspots.

3) WiMax & Satellite

There are also other wireless solutions available that do not require a mobile phone. Clear.com offers limited Wimax coverage in several US cities and satellite internet providers can give you service in remote areas.

Other than that you maybe able to find public internet terminals where you are, but bear in mind that this is not your internet connection and will be very likely blocked or filtered, especially in a public library.

Also, while this information relates particularly to the UK as this is where the contributor is from, you may be able to find similar options in your country, check for WiFi coverage and with your local mobile operators.

Can multiple modems be used at a residence?

As many as you have phone connections. Just keep in mind that only 1 modem at a time may be used for a connection.

Why do most networks transmit digital rather than analog signals?

Digital signals are capable of carrying more information than analogue signals because digital signals make use of the bandwidth more efficiently by closely approximating the original analogue..

Who is the best cable service provider?

Time Warner Cable without a doubt....here is a website you could check out...:)

www.timewarnercable.com

RCN has much more competitive prices for much better internet service. Currently they have a package that's 20mbp/s and 309 channels with 79 in HD for around 90 bucks. For the same amount of money you get 1.5mbp/s on Time warner. Expect to pay upwards of 130 bucks for worse service if you go with Time Warner Cable. The only catch is if RCN is in your area, since TWC has a strangle-hold on certain cities.

You can have a Cat-5 line coming from another telephone jack or the Network Interface Device, but the Cat-5 line must connect to a jack, to let you connect an RJ11 phone line to the modem.

What is the difference between a wired link cable and a wireless cable?

The differences between cable and wireless internet is that, when it is "cable" internet a physical cable is connected between the computer and the router. Whereas the "wireless" internet is wireless, it sends information through the air to your computer.
