What is the difference between a modem and wireless router?

Modems are hardware devices that translate an analog signal into a language your computer (or other digital device) can understand. They are often used to create an Internet connection through telephone ("dial-up") or cable lines. Wireless modems are typically used in portable devices such as laptop computers, mobile phones, and PDAs. These modems receive a signal over the air, such as from a cellular network, and not from a physical ground line. Routers are used to share the Internet connection created by a modem with one or more other machines connected to it. To use a router for anything other than creating a local network, you would need to connect it to the Internet via a modem. Wireless routers can perform this function without the need for ethernet cables. In this case, each machine needs a compatible wireless network adapter that uses an antenna to receive the signal broadcasted from the router. Because household routers are almost always used with modems, some hardware manufacturers have begun combining the two in a single physical device: the modem router. A wireless modem router is typically a hybrid of a traditional modem (which receives data through a physical cable) and a wireless router (which broadcasts the connection over a wireless network).

How do you split one cable internet line for multiple users?

== == (For this explanation, Ill be presuming you mean for home use)

Alright so you're currently with your one main cable internet connection and you want to have multiple users access the net with different computers at the Same time. All you need basically is a device called a "Router."

To begin with, you'll first need to obtain a Router. Now there are quite a few different models out there ranging from wireless ones to hard wired ones. For this example I'll be sticking to wired ones however if anyone feels like adding wireless Routers to the answer please feel free to do so.

Basically all you have to do is plug in your ethernet cable that normally goes into your computer into the router instead. From there, that cable will be split into more connections, depending how many your router supports and how many you actually want. All that you must do is plug more ethernet wires into the empty slots and plug them into the computers in which you want internet access.

Now obviously this explanation is brief as it's not getting into the workings of a router and more in depth set-up and security. If you're interested in a router, it's recommended to read up on various well-made documentation easily found on the internet. It will save you from many hassles in the future.

Answer Instead of a router you could always just get a switch. Some routers have to be programmed before they can be used (not that its an overly hard thing to do). But a switch would be cheaper and easier to set up.

You want to track a moneygram?

Yes, you can track your money sent through MoneyGram online. To do this, you will need the reference number for your transaction, which was provided to you at the time of sending. You can then go to the MoneyGram website and use their "Track a Transfer" feature to check the status of your transaction. The website will provide you with up-to-date information on the status of your transfer, including whether it has been picked up or if there have been any issues.

Please note that tracking information may not be available for all transactions, and the availability of information may vary depending on the destination country and the service used.

How many Telephone use with oneADSL Modem?

The average home telephone system will support up to 13 ring tones. The ADSL modem shares the same line has the telephone. Each telephone to be connected to the same line as the ADSL requires a DSL filter. The telephone must be connected to the filter that is connected to the house telephone wiring. Therefore; it is possible to have a telephone in every room of the house and an ADSL always on connection at the same time. This would allow one to use the telephone and Internet at the same time.

How do you connect windows XP wireless to mac airport modem?

When you purchased an Apple Airport Modem you would have received a setup disk which should hold the software for both Mac OS and Windows OS.

Using this disk you should be able to configure the Airport to work with Windows XP. If the disk is not with it or the software not available then please visit the Apple.com website.

As the Airport basically has it's own system it requires this software to setup after which any unit can be connected with the correct passkey (if used).

What is fddi nic?

Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) NICs are commonly used to connect host systems or file servers to FDDI network equipment using one connectin (single attachment) and to attach the network equipment to the FDDI cabling through two attachments (dual attachment).

FDDI is defined by the ANSI X3T9.5 standards committee and provides an access method to enable high-capacity data throughput on busy networks. It has a data throughput rate of 100Mbps, and is simliar to the token ring access method because it uses token passing for network communication.

What is fast speed internet and is satellite internet considered fast speed?

Fastest internet in the world ever recorded was around 400gbps (Gigabytes Per Second) slow is around 6 Mbps (megabits per second) average would be around 30 mbps.

Satellite internet would get you about 10 Mbps, so depending on what you use the internet for and if you download large files (700 mb+) satellite would be average... I recommend a Mi-Fi card....extremely portable, super fast, rapid downloads and uploads.... I use a Verizon 4G jetpack... I take it on trips and it works great.... I never have signal problems no matter where I am!

Does the internet speed come from a modem or from the company?

The modem will define the speed at which your will be able to access the internet connection. For example, if you have an ADSL modem, you will only be able to access speed at the modem max of 512k even though your telephone line has speeds up to 24,000k.

Conversely, if your telephone line is only able to handle speeds upto 512k, having an ADSL2+ modem will not increase your speed. The technology for data transfer speed is in the cable sending and receiving data thus copper cables will be slower then fiber optics.

A dial-up modem using the telephone line on analogue (instead of digital) will only transfer at a speed of 64k even though it is using the same copper cable capable of 512k.
