Becuase the shell is a vital organ of the turtle, something it does not grow out of. The pealing is like when us humans grow sometimes our skin peels a little. That's just it growing with us, just as the shell grows with the trurtle.

Garter and grass snakes can be many different colours, but the main colours usually associated with them are greens, blacks, greys and stripe colours of red, yellow, orange and cream. No, I'm told they can get fungal infections under their scales, but it's never happened to my snake and I live in the troppics. Mind you my snake likes to hang in his branches rather than lie in the water. I think it only realy happens when your snake lies in water too much. Some people I know have to give their snake a very small water dish to stop this happening. I think snakes also like to bath in their water before shedding their skin.

I am use to eastern box turtles ...... small white eggs..... looks like a small birds egg but the shell is not as hard, kind of hard like leather... about 3/4 of a inch... Martin 5-21-09

They are not able to control their temperature. For example, they have to get in the sun to warm up and they have to hide in shade to cool down. They are cold blooded and they have eggs. They have scales and are dated back to Jurassic era. #rekt

Do not feed your dragons iceberg lettuce, celery or cucumber as they contain no nutritional value and they can get addicted to iceberg. the best thing to feed them veg wise is kale, mustard greens, green beans, sweet potato, yellow squash and occasionally carrot. you could also try them on strawberries and blueberries but not many Chinese water dragons eat fruit unless you gut feed there insects with it. hope this helps

I should start off my answer by saying that i am not a snake breeder, but have had pet snakes all my life. For the best answer, u should consult ur local snake breeder (not a major pet store such as petsmart or petco. The people there know very little about animals). There are many local snakeries(if that is even a word :]) that should be able to answer this question very thoroughly. Most king snakes do not reach adulthood until around the age of 3 or 4. From what i know about snakes, a pet snake should not be bred with a mate if under the age of 2, and even then the chances of a successful fertilization of the majority of the eggs are not as high as they should be. For the best possible results, it is best to start breeding a snake when they reach adulthood.

ONLY if the location of the vivarium isn't going to get too cold ! If you can't maintain the normal night-time temperature range - use a heat-pad. That way the snake will still get some heat - but there'll be no light (as would happen normally at night !)

Turtles like to eat apples,but you should include other fruits like:

* Bananas

* Grapes

* Melon

* Tomato

* Strawberries

but you should cut up these fruit in small, bite-size or match-like sticks that will be easy for the turtle to eat so it won't choke.

Sea snakes can forage in groups, but snakes generally don't hang out together unless they are mating. Oh, and a group of snakes is not called a herd. today July 7 10 i let my red eared slider go into the wild because he was getting to big and he was 3 years old was excited and ran straight into a lake that has lots of red and yellow eared slider turtles in it so i think he very happy

Because of the depletion of the population by whalers in the late 19th century, the subspecies known as the Pinta Tortoise was essentially considered extinct by the mid-twentieth century. Shortly thereafter, in the late 1950's, goats were introduced to the island which resulted in a terrible destruction of natural habitat. Renewed efforts to eradicate the goat population proved successful in the late 1990's and much of Pinta Island is being restored to it's natural state. As part of this, genetic testing is being done on tortoise populations on nearby islands to identify subspecies that are closely related to the original inhabitants and establish a new population on the island. The last know member of the original Pinta Tortoise subspecies, named Lonesome George, was discovered on the island in 1972 and lived in captivity until his death in 2012. During the last years of his life, all efforts to breed Lonesome George failed to produce any viable offspring.
