Cats claw furniture usually because they haven't got any other adequate places for it sharpen its claws. Cats need to scratch in order to remove old layers of claw, and also to work the muscles in their feet, shoulders, legs and back.

Providing adequate scratching posts, or even activity trees with multiple scratching posts will usually stop a cat from scratching furniture, as many will naturally prefer posts to furniture.

Yes, my cat is always getting into things and needing a bath. She absolutely hates it, but she puts up with it. They have sensitive systems and skin. The first time I washed my cat I used my dogs shampoo. She got very ill. It turned out the tea tree oil that helps my dogs skin was toxic to the cat. Be sure to pick up a shampoo made just for cats from the pet store to avoid any problems like that.

Ask your vet. We use a dog flea/tick shampoo on our cat and she has no ill effects from it. She's a very hardy domestic shorthair, though. Some breeds are less tolerant to enivronmental factors than others. As long as you THOROUGHLY rinse your cat out, to where no residue is left in the fur, she should do fine.

I just had this issue with my week old kitten that I have been hand-rearing. I got worried because he had been pooping a few times a day, a nice tooth-paste consistency which was perfect, but then didn't poop for 24 hours. When he finally pooped, the poop seemed backed up more and was much harder, though still soft by human poop standards. This was followed by some mild diarrhea. The next day, he still hadn't pooped again and his belly seemed full and slightly more firm than usual. I took him to the vet who said that this type of behavior is worrisome for a new kitten. Bowel problems can easily turn fatal. She expressed that a kitten should poop pretty consistently each time its bum is stimulated with a damp wipe (something the mother cat usually does with her tongue after each feeding, which should be every 2-3 hours). The kitten should perhaps not poop each time, but should go at least a few times a day. The vet ended up giving my kitty a shot of fluids, and sending me home with three more to administer over the next three days, hoping that hydrating him would help soften his stool.

As of yet, he still hasn't pooped again, but I'll continue to try every hour or so and hope that my little sweetie will hurry up and poop so I can feel better!

Yes, cats can indeed catch fleas. Once they go outside they catch it. It depends where abouts they are. If there round about a field or a wood than probally indeed! To get rid of them use frontline and wash your cat regularly anf remove some of them.

Yes, it is safe to spay a cat during its heat cycle. There is a very small risk of noticeable personality changes associated with this, but this is much lower than the risk of unwanted kittens from an intact.

There are more potential surgical complications because the reproductive tract is enlarged and much more vascular during an active heat cycle. Some of the potential complications include ovarian remnants being left, difficulty controlling bleeding due to increased blood flow through the area and risk of not adequately closing down the cervix. However, your veterinarian will be aware of these risks and take precautions as needed to address them. The healing time may also be slightly longer.

Most likely, my dogs do. Frogs have a poison that seeps out of their backs...this causes the animal to not eat it, or vomit for awhile. So, if your cat if vomiting after this, its ok. But, if it continues and becomes more frequent....see the vet.

I recommend Cans of soft kitten food you should find on the pet section of your local grocery store. Or feed them small sections of hard cat food and some kitten food and smashing them together is good too so your cat can enjoy both.

There are a couple of answers as to why cats urinate around the house. In no particular order: they mark their territory; especially if another cat lives or has lived in your home. They do it out of protest. If you leave them in the care of someone else and they miss you, you can count on urine spots and possibly even feces. My final answer is you need to change the litter box more frequently. Praise kitty for using it; but keep it well cleaned frequently.

Male cats have testicles. But, you can also tell by what colors a cat has. If it's a female it has 3 colors, a male has 2 or 1 color. But, some females have what I call a secret color which is when they have a little speckle ( which are unnoticeable in this case) and it has a different color. Always look again for a little spot you might have missed and it's hard to see a kitten's testicles. I know a cat who gave birth to a kitten that has a little unnoticeable orange spot. T hat's how you tell a female and male apart.

It depends if you have the mother. If the mother is there the best advice is to LEAVE THEM BE!! Put them in a warm room, and give the mother all she needs (soft blankets, favorite food, lots of water.)

If you do not have the mother, you will need some sort of baby bottle to feed the infants, you will need to keep them very warm, and be there all the time to make sure they are okay. You can get all the necessary equipment from a vet or animal shelter. Animal shelters may even have a nursing cat that will be able to take on more kittens.

I got my babies with their mother, so I didn't touch them. They normally have their eyes closed the first week, and can NOT walk at all at first. Then they walk like little turtles and have weak little whimpers. I let their mommy tend to their needs, and now we have 5 extremely strong and healthy cats.

I too had the same problem.Where I live they have a by law that states animals have to be buried in a pet cemetery.Turns out it was an hour by car to get there.You would figure in a popular city they would have a pet cemetery MUCH closer.

A tabby cat is usually not a purebred cat, so could be free, or, very little money.

If you get a cat from an animal shelter or rescue agency, they will charge you a lot more, since they had the veterinarian examine the cat, and had to take care of it so they had costs to cover, but it would still be less money than getting a purebred cat. They would likely require you to get the cat neutered or spayed, and then they would give you some money back.

A cat that is aggressive after being spayed may be experiencing post-operative pain. She may also be trying to adjust to the change in hormones. If the problem continues, have your vet check her for physical problems related to the spaying.

Well,I am not a veternarin ,but if a human uses dog shampoo his/her hair will fall out.So im not scaring you if already did it,but it's not healthy for a cat to use a dog's shampoo.Not speaking exactly and scientificly but im not sure on this ok,but it's hair might start falling off.

Declawing is not a removal of the nails of a cat. Declawing surgery is actually the amputation of the first digit of each of the cat's toes. In human terms, it would be the equivalent of chopping off each finger tip at the first knuckle. This severs muscle and tendons which causes much pain and discomfort to the cat.

The procedure is often done with use of either a guillotine-type cutter, scalpel or laser, depending on the vet. The cat is often kept overnight to recover from the initial surgery.

There are all sorts of products in your pet store to use to deter cats from urinating under your house. You could also phone your vet (no cost) and they may recommend a good product for your problem.
