Cat Maintenance

Cat maintenance focuses on the hair and claws of the cat. Combing a cat’s fur is an excellent way of getting rid of hair balls and checking for fleas. One should provide a scratching post to keep the cat's nails trimmed.

I am traveling From Michigan to Texas with 2 13 week kittens what is the best way to do this we will also be stopping at a motel on the way?

Interstate 80 to Indianapolis, then I-44 to Oklahoma City. From there, it depends on where in Texas you want to go. I recommend trying MapQuest.

If you are travelling by car then you will require, a CD with music you find soothing and the felines will require a large enough for two, cat carrier (that is the proper plastic petvoyager things not the ones made of cardboard). Put them on the back seats of the car and shut the windows. As the car moves they may begin to wail a bit at which point you will stress out and that's how you will spend the entire journey. Make sure they have water in their carrier and some biscuits and something familiar like a blanket they use and a toy. You may also want to take a bag of cat litter because regardless of how long a cat can hold on, it can't forever. Oh, and they prefer steady driving, closed windows and no swinging around. They will be fine upon arrival I'm sure - you however will not!

How often should you feed your cat?

Small portions 2-3 times per day.

How often you feed a cat again depends on the cat. Most healthy adult cats do well with two meals a day; one in the morning and the second in the evening. Kittens, young cats and particularly small cats will need feeding more often in smaller amounts as their stomachs are smaller and cannot take in too much food all in one go.

What is a good name for a cat?

Choose wisely, cats aren't just another animal to call a silly name like fluffy. Do your cat justice name him/ her something important to you. I know a beautiful cat name "Atticus"or "Atty" for short, from To Kill a Mocking Bird.

Why would active indoor cat start sneezing for a week and then gag and vomit clear liquid today while waiting for normal meal of Med Cal dental food which was eaten with usual enthusiasm?

bring to a vet asap the cat ate/drank something it shouldn't have

ANSWER

sounds like it could have a cold, and could have been gagging a little at its dinner, as we do when we get a cold sometimes,

could also be symptoms of an allergy or as above said something it ate,

keep an eye on any more symptoms but always get the cat to a vet anyway just to be on the safe side.

What is a group of cats called?

The correct term for referring to a group of cats is 'clowder.' Interestingly, there are also two other valid ways to refer to a group of cats, other than just saying "group of cats" or "cats." Those other two terms are 'clutter' and 'glaring.'

In addition to this, if one wants to refer to a group of wild cats, the correct terms are 'dowt' and 'destruction.' A male cat, when neutered, is called a "gib," when not, is called a "tom." Female cats are known as "molly."

The word "cat" itself derives from the Old English "catt." Catt has its source in the Late Latin "catus," meaning: "domestic cat." This Late Latin word probably derives from an Afro-Asiatic word: "kaddîska," meaning "wild cat."

What are hard lumps around and on your ears if you have one in each lobe and one on the back of each ear and one in front of each ear on the facial region and sometimes they swell?

What is cartilage? tough connective tissue that connects various parts of your body (including the outer ear!) What is cauliflower ear? A deformity that typically occurs in boxers, wrestlers and rugby players who are active in the scrum. It is where the ear is struck and a blood clot develops under the skin, or the skin seperates from the cartilage causing a disruption and the "lumpy cauliflower like" appearance.

Can you just leave one big bowl of food out for your cat or should you put a small bowl and re-fill it when needed?

You can feed the cat as you wish to. I personally have two cats and they have a bowl that fills itself up after the bottom portion is empty. They do not seem to mind sharing the same food or water bowl.

Cats poop because of all the solid food they eat needs to leave their system. The same answer is for pee, but with liquids.

How do you make your cat an outdoor cat?

you keep it inside just take it out for walks occasioanly. i did that and it is going great You just have to make sure to bring the cat to the vet and make sure to de-worm, de-flea him. He may also contain ticks so you want to check for that. and check for possible leukemia or FIV or any other symptoms as well as heartworms. Some of these things can be bad for your family members if they transfer into your house (especially fleas transfer readily onto your carpet and very bad once they start multiplying).

What should I feed a kitten that is sick and that won't eat?

Keep plenty of fresh water available in a ceramic or pyrex bowl. DO NOT FEED THE CAT ANY FOOD FOR 24 HOURS. You can give the cat NutriCal or Vitacal, about one inch of the "paste" on your finger on the roof of the cat's mouth, 3 or 4 times a day. This product is a high-calorie, vitamin-enriched gel/paste that bypasses the digestive system, so it can be given to animals with upset stomachs. If the cat is vomiting more than 24 hours without any sign of improvement, call a veterinarian and get your cat in immediately. If the cat is vomiting blood, do not delay in getting him to the veterinarian! I corrected my typos!

Why does your cat withdraw when you try to pet him?

If your cat once was a stray, maybe he/she had a bad experience. Remember, a bad experience your cat has most probably would stay with them all their life. you (or some unkind stranger) lean in to pet your cat, but then hit them or hurt it in some way, your cat may think you are going to do the same thing again!

Another thing that may be wrong is its just a bit moody,or it has a sore on its head.

Never follow a cat around trying to pet it if it withdraws, unless you want a scratched hand( you cant blame your cat for doing it though!)

to get your cat to allow you to pet it, maybe try once every hour, dont rush it.try sitting still(but not statue-like) and hold out the treats in hand then let him eat it, pet it then,Im not an expert, so try calling a trusted vet.
