Recently purchased a Corvette with engine out of a 1994 Camaro the owner listed it as a 383 LT1 thought LT1 was a 350 how can you tell the difference?

the lt1 is a 350 but if the engine has ever had any work done to it the guy probably have had .030 shaved off the cylinder walls and installed .030 larger pistons this gives you a 383 ABOVE STATEMENT IN INCORRECT A Chevy 350 is 4.000" bore with 3.48" stroke. Engine rebored .030" oversize is 355. A Chevy 383 is 4.030" with 3.75" stroke. To answer the original question, racing sanctioning bodies have a device that screws into a spark plug hole and measures displacement. Without that device, you cannot tell a 350 from a 383 without pulling off a head and measuring the distance the piston travels from top dead center to bottom dead center and the diameters of the cylinders. ABOVE STATEMENT IS GOOD BUT DOES NOT ANSWER QUESTION To get a 383 you use the crank out of a 400 small block or an after market crank. Because of limited space it can't be internaly balanced, so it uses the harmonic balancer specifically balanced for a 400 motor, which is not uniformaly round to balance the 400. You can tell a 400 balancer by watching the harmonic balancer when running at low idle to see if it looks like a chunk is missing from the back side of it. This is a sure sign of a 383 stroker. Some of the newer after market 383 cranks could be internaly balanced, then they would use a regular 350 balancer. I haven't seen one yet,but I build old school 400's and 383's. Check the balancer first.

How do you bypass fuel pump in a 96 camaro?

You cant bypass a fuel pump. Thats where the gas comes from smartie

Windshield wipers stay up in off position on 95 camaro?

by up I'm assuming you mean they don't "tuck" back in like they should... This is most likely a wiper control module (pulse board) that attaches to the wiper motor, with three screws. You see this all the time with GM trucks. The wipers should 'tuck in' for aerodynamics. The part is ~$40 at your local parts store.

How do you reset the computer on a 1992 Chevy Camaro?

Easiest way is to just disconnect the battery for a couple minutes. The only issue when hooking it back up is it may take a couple minutes for the idle to stabilize.

Why won't a 1989 Chevy Camaro IROC-Z 350 TPI start if it cranks and has fire and fuel pressure?

Timing chain or gear broke. This times the valves with the pistons.

Other Possible ProblemsIf the car has spark, then it is not the timing gear or chain, as this drives the cam, which in turn drives the distributor shaft. If it doesn't have spark, the quickest way to check if it is the timing gear/chain is to pull the distributor cap and see if the rotor is turning when you crank the engine.

For a car to run it has to have compression, spark, air and fuel, in the right amounts and at the right time. If a car isn't even trying to start, one of these is usually missing. Given that you have spark, and fuel pressure at the rail, this would seem to narrow down the options:

1. The spark could be happening at the wrong time, for example if the distributor was not clamped tight enough and it rotated in its bore, or if the timing chain skipped, etc. Use a timing light to verify that spark is occurring at the correct time.

2. Even though there is fuel pressure at the rail, that does not necessarily mean it is getting to the intake. An electrical problem could be causing the fuel injectors not to fire. Unfortunately with TPI it's not easy to pull an injector to see if it is pumping. Given that you have spark, I would try taking off the intake cowl and squirting a small amount of gasoline or starter fluid into the plenum, then turning it over. If it has compression and spark at the right time, this should make it fire up, if only for a few revolutions before it dies again. If this works, you know it's an issue of fuel not reaching the cylinders.

3. If those two possibilities are eliminated, I would begin to suspect that you don't have compression for one reason or another. I broken timing chain would do that, as the valves would not actuate and those that are open would get bent when the pistons came to top. If you have spark though, it's not that, in which case it would likely have to be a blown head gasket(s). One sign that may signify a loss of compression is that, assuming a well charged battery, the motor may turn over faster than normal because the starter does not have to fight against compression. You can check for compression using a compression gauge, which is a pressure gauge that you can insert into a spark plug hole, allowing you to observe the cylinder pressure while cranking the motor with the ignition disconnected.

Will fifth generation Camaro wheels fit a fourth generation Camaro?

Short answer, no.

Can it be done, yes. The bolt pattern on the 5th gen is .65 mm smaller. Some people just bolt them up and deal with replacing wheel studs often. Really, if you do it, you need to have your hubs drilled for the new pattern.

Also, the overall height on 5th gen is 29" where 4th gen is 25.7 inches. The new wheels may not even fit in the wheel well. If they do, you still need to recalibrate the speedo.

No, they are different. They do use the same console shifter though. I know that's not what you wanted to hear. Sorry.
