I have a 2004 Chevy Colorado and the AC only worked on the high setting no other settings today it stopped working on high as well will not work at all what could be the problem?

My wife's truck had the same problem with the AC only staying on when set on high. She found that she could kick under the glove box and the other setting would work. She brought her truck in under warranty and they just told her that it was a loose wire. I'm not sure what they did but it worked for a month or two and then went back to not working. Many months later...I inspected under the glove box and found that one of the pins on the connector connecting to the Delphi AC unit's harness was burned almost all the way through and was only making intermittent contact. As soon as I forced the wires to touch the ac worked but the wires got red hot and burned my hands. I found that if I just disconnect that part of the harness the "high" setting will still work but not the others. The truck is now out of warranty and we are leaving the harness unplugged so as not to cause any more failures in her electrical system due to the short or whatever it is. In short, our problem has something to do with a short or something that burned up our harness and it is now only making intermittent contact. I'm not sure if you have the same defect cause as us but it wouldn't hurt for you to check.

I have a 2005 Chevy Colorado and I have had the same problem. Chevy has had problems with the original wire harness and now offer a new one that corrects the problem. I had to replace the blower, harness, and the blower resistor connection which cost just under 400.00 installed. From everyone I have talked to this has been a pretty big hassle for all Colorado owners and Chevy has never mentioned a recall. I don't think I will be buying another Chevy anytime soon.

What causes wet front floors mainly on the driver's side of a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

About 90% of the time, I've traced this problem to a leaking windshield. I've also traced it to a leaking door seals. Best way to find out would be get out the garden hose and gently have water run down the windshield and the driver side door from the roof area while having someone watch inside with a flashlight. After a few minutes, the source should become apparant. Hope you find your problem.

Can you flat tow gm four wheel drive vehicles with the electronic transfer case unlimited distances?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No.. Short distances are fine.. Indefinite distances are a NO NO. The transmission and transaxle are designed to be lubricated properly with the engine runing and the gears meshed..

Freewheeling the drive train will prevent lubrication from covering all the moveable parts with enough design fluid pressure to be sufficient.. Also, all external seals require lubrication to stay plyable.. Freewheeling prevents the output shafts from spray-up lubrication and will eventually damage the seal lip due to overheating.. (From lack of lubricant)

How do you safely disable seat belt alarm or chime on 2006 Hyundai Sonata?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

How about putting your seat belts on! If the chime is not going off when you put on the belts, take it back to the dealer.

-------------- Better Answer (for the 2007 - 2006 may be similar) - of course you should buckle up. But it nags even when your door is open or key in ignition, fast and loud. The 2009 model doesnt do this, and the dealer refused to lower the volume on my 2007.

I wouldn't recommend totally disabling it, but it is painfully loud . I finally broke down and removed it with the help of my neighbor, a mechanic. You have to remove the entire center console. There are also screws inside the storage compartment (lift the rubber liner) and on the sides. The shift knob screws off, then you lift the console out. Just a heads up, the wires wrapped in yellow tape are the airbags, no big risk. The chime is inside a small plastic box below\behind the cigarette lighter (approx 7 inches wide, remove and unsnap cover) The speaker is integrated with the circuit board. I don't recommend removing it - there are other vital items on the board. The speaker is surrounded a 1 inch deep plastic surround (part of the top cover). So, I put electrical tape directly on the speaker, and stuffed the surround with tire patches, then taped it and put everything back. Now, if you notice a few red lights, engine, etc after you put it back together, don't panic. You computer system will eventually do a self-test, mine reset after I drove for about 5 minutes and restarted the car. The muffled chime is now manageable to me. I can deal with it for at least 30 seconds if I must get in, out, or unbuckle. There you go! Oh, and those other posts about how if you disable it, it will disable the airbags are LIES according to my mechanic - they must have a separate circuit. But as I said, I can live with a quieter chime, and believe in seatbelts. Drive Safely.

How do you disable the auto door lock on a 2005 Colorado?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Most programmable features on modern vehicles are changed through a simple button dance, this is no exception.

The procedure may vary depending on the model year.

Automatic Door Locks

With the vehicles engine off, and the ignition in the Lock position, press and hold the power door lock button for approximately three seconds until the DIC displays the current door lock mode. Then press and hold the reset stem for approximately two seconds to switch modes. The following are the mode choices:

Lock 1 (default)

Lock all doors when the vehicle is shifted out of PARK(P) with an automatic transmission, or when the vehicle speed is greater than 15 MPH (24 hm/h) with a manual transmission. Doors will unlock when the vehicle is shifted into PARK(P) with an automatic transmission, or when the ignition key is removed on a manual transmission.

Lock 2

Turns off the automatic door locks

Lock 3

Lock all doors when the vehicle is shifted out of PARK(P) with an automatic transmission, or when the speed is greater than 15 MPH(24km/hr) with a manual transmission. Drivers door will unlock when the vehicle is shifted into PARK(P) with an automatic transmission, or when the ignition key is removed on a manual transmission.

Lock 4

Lock all doors when the vehicle is shifted out of PARK(P) with an automatic transmission, or when the vehicle speed is greater than 15 MPH (24 km/hr) with a manual transmission. No doors will unlock

Instructions to change a drivers side low beam headlight bulb on a Chevy Colorado or a GMC Canyon :

This is for the DRIVERS SIDE LOWBEAM. Other bulbs accessible from back. Check your truck. My trucks Drivers side lowbeam bulb is not accessible with out removing head light, your truck may vary.

Make sure you have plenty of time , if you rush you will have problems so go slow and do it right the first time.

> disconnect the parking light connections on the top of the parking lights .

> carefully remove the grill by sliding the four plastic tabs on the top of grill while gently pulling , then just pull the grill off being careful not to pull to hard . there are two snap connectors behind the parking lamps and three more along the bottom of the grill.

> with a socket remove the two 10mm bolts that secure the headlights. slide the headlights forward .

> this will give you enough room to change the bulb. I removed the connection first. I also put a clean sock on one hand to help handle the bulb without touching the new bulb.

> line up the bulb prongs and rotate clockwise until you feel it snap. inspect the new bulb to insure it is properly installed and all three prongs on the bulb are now hidden. double check through the lens.

>when reinstalling the headlight take a good look first to notice the two tabs on the bottom of the light . the tabs go in first then hold the light up and tight while you reinstall the two 10mm bolts. double check this to make sure both tabs are in . do not over tighten the bolts.

> use a flashlight to help align the grill push connectors. snap in the bottom of the grill first then behind the parking lights then finally snap the four connectors along the top of the grill.

> that's it ! take your time and you will have no problem.

take care, Black GMC Canyon Reg cab Z71

How to change a starter?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The starter is usually located on the passenger of the vehicle, under and to the rear of the engine where it bolts to the flywheel housing. Steps for changing a starter: (1) disconnect the negative cable at the battery; (2) raise the vehicle and put jackstands under it for support (3) block the rear tires to keep vehicle from rolling backwards; (4) under the vehicle, disconnect the red cable and the black wire that connect to the starter solenoid; (5) unbolt and remove the two bolts that attach the starter to the flywheel housing; (6) pull starter out. Installation is reverse. Good luck...

How do you change the starter for a 1996 Oldsmobile achieva?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

All except 2.3L and 2.4L (Quad -4) models

CAUTION: If it has the Delco LocII audio syatem, make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. 1) Disconnect the negative battery cable 2) Raise the vehicle and support on jackstands 3) Under the vehicle disconnect the solenoid wire and battery cable from the stater solenoid. 4) Remove the starter motor bolts 5) Remove the starter motor NOTE: the location of spacer shim(s) 6) Installation is the reverse of removal NOTE: Be sure to install the shim(s) in the same location

2.3L and 2.4L (Quad-4)

See CAUTION ABOVE

1) Disconnect the negative battery cable 2) Remove the intake air duct 3) Remove the cooling fan 4) Remove the oil filter 5) Remove the starter mounting bolts and pull the starter out enough to disconnect the battery cable and wiring harness from the solenoid 6) Lift the starter out between the intake manifold and radiator 7) Installation is in the reverse of removal

Edit: I just did this in my 97 4cyl and I just wanted to add to these instructions that you may have to unscrew the starter relay to get the cooling fan out. The starter relay is right next to the battery. Also, check the wires coming out of the starter relay. There is a purple wire that connects to a connector mounted above the oil filter. It's easy to accidentally unplug when you are installing the new starter, make sure you get it back in there or the car won't start.

Can you turn off the Passenger Airbag on a 2000 Toyota Solara?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Only in the following instances can you turn off the Passenger SRS.

1. People who must transport infants riding in rear-facing infant seats in the front passenger seat. 2. People who must transport children ages 1 to 12 in the front passenger seat. 3. Drivers who change their customary driving position and keep 10 inches between the center of the steering wheel and the center of their breastbone. 4. People whose doctors say that, due to their medical condition, the air bag poses a special risk that outweighs the risk of hitting their head, neck or chest in a crash if the air bag is turned off. If you are eligible, you must fill out a NHTSA request form. Forms are available at state motor vehicle offices and may be available at automobile dealers and repair shops. You may also get one by calling the NHTSA Hotline or visiting the NHTSA Web site. On the form, you must indicate which air bags you want equipped with an on-off switch, certify that you have read this information brochure, certify that you are, or a user of your vehicle is, a member of a risk group listed above, and identify the group. Then send this form to NHTSA. Upon approval of your request, the agency will send you a letter authorizing an automobile dealer or repair shop to install an on-off switch in your vehicle. Warning: It is illegal to turn off the SRS without prior approval from the NHTSA. Do so and you leave yourself open to a lawsuit and your insurance company may refuse to pay for any injuries associated with this.
