May be a clogged fuel filter. If you change it yourself you need to relieve the pressure first or you will get a face full of gas when you loosen the filter line.

Assuming that your '66 was originally equipped with back up lights, there will be a corresponding "L" shaped plug coming from the large firewall grommet located to the right of the windshield wiper transmission.
