What happens when you visit a chiropractor?
When you first visit a chiropractor, just as when you first visited your primary care physician, your chiropractor will take a thorough medical history including the history of your present illness, your past and current medical conditions, medications and therapies currently prescribed, your past surgeries, your social history, your family medical history, and a review of symptoms or diseases related to your body systems.
In addition, your chiropractor will perform a physical examination that will not only assess the musculoskeletal and neurologic systems, but may also investigate cardiovascular, respiratory, peripheral vascular, head and neck, ears, eyes, nose , throat, genitourinary, and abdominal regions.
Further diagnostic testing may be ordered after this initial visit that may include x-rays, laboratory blood testing, MRI, CT, EMG, or other diagnostic studies.
After your chiropractor has made a complete assessment of you, he/she will often give you a report of findings which may occur on the same day or at your next visit.
During this report of findings the doctor of chiropractic will explain diagnoses obtained and what the treatment plan is.
Often chiropractic therapies include physical therapy that may be passive (such as therapeutic ultrasound or electrotherapy) or active (such as therapeutic exercises.
The chiropractor may also include adjustments which involve joint manipulation, manual therapy, acupuncture, clinical nutrition, and/or wellness planning.
The different types of treatments or the adjustment techniques utilized vary depending on the specific chiropractor you have selected.

Can a chiropractor legally work from a home office?
Yes, once a chiropractor has completed an undergraduate degree, a chiropractic degree, and passed all the board exams he/she is allowed to open a practice in whatever type of building they like. The restriction is that it must be within the jurisdiction of the regulatory college whose board exams they write. For example, in Canada, if a chiropractor passes the Canadian board exams and the ALberta board exams then they are licenced to practice anywhere they want in Alberta. If they choose to practice out of their home then that is OK.
Is medical malpractice higher that chiropractic malpractice?
Yes, it is much higher, although the specifics depend on which medical or chiropractic specialty you have, and what country/state you are in.
Medical malpractice insurance can cost anywhere between $20,000 and $100,000 per year, whereas chiropractic malpractice insurance costs anywhere from $100 to $2500 per year.
The difference is due to the higher risk procedures that medical doctors carry out in comparison to chiropractors (eg: drugs and surgery vs spinal manipulation and exercise), as well as the greater severity of the conditions medical doctors treat in comparison to chiropractors (eg: heart attacks and strokes vs back pain and headaches).

What is the difference between Manual manipulation and Manual therapy?
Manual manipulation is another way of describing spinal manipulation or adjustments as provided by chiropractors and sometimes by medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy and physiotherapists. Manual manipulation is one possible component/form of manual therapy. Manual therapy can also consist of manual mobilizations, stretching, exercises, soft tissue therapy (myofacial release, massage, trigger-point, etc.), modalities (ultrasound, electrotherapy, laser, etc.).
Thus, manual manipulation is one component of manual therapy, manual therapy is a term used to describe all types of manual treatments.

Why do people bad mouth chiropractic?
I wondered this too.. but it wasn't until I began researching mainstream health (immunizations etc) that I realized, Chiropractors know far more than traditional doctors. They tend to know more about our bodies, autoimmune disease, and the nervous system.
They heal naturally and when people aren't paying for medications, expensive testing, and procedures.. that makes for a loss for the doctors.
You just cracked your neck can anything bad happen?
The answer to this is going to depend on many variables, perhaps most importantly, what the mechanism was. If you "cracked" your neck as you landed from a 10-storey fall, then yes, "bad" things may have happened. If you simply mean that your neck made a popping sound when you turned to look left or right, or when you laterally flexed your neck, then there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
This does not mean that it is advisable to intentionally "crack" your own neck on a regular basis, as the neck is a very flexible part of your spine, and as such, some stability is sacrificed to allow movement. The lesser stability on the joints in your neck make it more prone to injuries than the rest of your spine. The possible injuries usually range from sprains or strains and very rarely fracture.
If you are suffering from neck pain, headaches, cervicogenic dizziness, reduced range of motion, or another neck-related condition and feel that you may benefit from a neck adjustment, it is advized that you visit a doctor of chiropractic. The risks associated with a neck adjustment are almost zero when an adjustment is performed by a skilled professional (eg: doctor of chiropractic).
