I bought my Antigua clarinet for $400. They can be cheaper or more expensive than that. You can also buy from your local pawn shop or eBay, but I wouldn't recommend doing that, because usually they are broken in some way when you get them there. Most instrument shops allow you to rent-to-own instruments.

The lowest note on a standard Bb clarinet is a written E, an octave below the treble staff and it is used frequently.

Because the clarinet is a transposing instrument, that E actually sounds a concert D. (That's the D in the middle of the bass clef, although it's not written in bass clef in clarinet music). Any time a concert D in that octave is called for, it can be written for clarinet. For some instruments, the lowest few notes are difficult to sound or to play in tune, and are avoided by composers and arrangers. The clarinet's low E is considered a safe, reliable note and is not avoided.

It is a Glissando so you almost slide your fingers off to create an almost whiney like tone as you reach the top. But, It takes Practice start slow getting the 17tuplets and rise. The add the glissando.

they're not. i had one and it lasted a year before it gave out completely. My friend had one and it lasted even less. You would rather spend more on a better quality instrument that would last much, much longer than a simba.

YOU MIGHT CONSIDER GETTING THE WHEEL BEARINGS CHECKED, IF IT SOUNDS LIKE IT'S COMING FROM THE WHEELS (PARTICULARLY WHEN YOU ARE TURNING). THE TENSIONER WHEEL AND BOGEY WHEELS ON THE SERPENTINE BELT (FAN BELT) SOMETIMES DO THAT, TOO.

Clarinets have a long tradition in jazz -- check out Benny Goodman. I would suggest that a few clarinet players who are interested in Jazz Band get together, learn a couple of pieces, and ask the band teacher to listen.

Yes. It could play jazz, but it usually plays orchestra, slow pretty songs, or upbeat music. Also the famous clarinet player, Woody Allen has played jazz.
