At minimum, codeine is a pain reliever. It is also used for relieving a dry cough. For both of these actions, codeine makes action on your body and your body has a response to the codeine.

Well someone close to me accidentally took three 'Phenergan' tablets in the space of four hours which they were given for relief of a yet unknown severe rash because the box said up to three a night and did NOT stipulate how far apart they should be nor did the pharmacist or Dr explain it to them. ( my thoughts about the rash is that it is definitely psoriatic possibly psoriatic arthritis) SIX Days later they are still feeling weird as in spacey and having trouble getting the words to come out of their mouths as their brain wants. They have also slept for 14 hrs a night all week when before they took the pill they couldn't hardly sleep at all. Being told this gets eliminated from the body after 14 hrs is just not accurate when someone has taken three tablets. (as poisons information told me) depending on the person.

Tylenol, Aspirin, Naproxen (Aleve in America), Ibuprofen, ketorolac, (basically any NSAID), darvocet, hydrocodone (in most circumstances), Oxycodone, dilaudid, morphine, fentanyl, meperidine, methadone, the list goes on.

Actually codeine is a pretty crappy pain reliever anyway, you're not missing much. You'd probably get better results from ketorolac, ibuprofen or Naproxen even though they are available over the counter. Ahh, but the power of suggestion is strong though isn't it?

in my experience it is addictive, i have been on lorcets for years and very addicted to it.but my point is sometimes i would get codeine instead of lorcets and i would abuse them too..so yes it is addictve,so you have to be careful of getting dependent on them..i am clean now but its taken about 12 years i use to take allmost 30 a day.so be careful..

Yes you can take both together. Paracetamol kills the pain and the penicillin kills the infection.

If it is a dry cough ( no mucus, just scratching of your throat ) Than just fluids and cough drops ( it stays closer to your throat and will relieve it)

If there is mucus in your chest, try a hot shower to open up it up and lots of water and, if it's allergies, benadryl . If not than some DayQuil..

A lot of physicians just wont presecribe it at all because it is highly adictive. And many say that it just does not do the job, and that better products with fewer possible consequences are available. (Still it is a steady producer for Eli Lilly; all physicians are not in agreement.)

Propoxyphene is related to codeine and hydrocodone, but it is not the same.

Tylenol 4 has 1 more grain ov Codeine than fiorinal. Drug test put both medicines in an opiate category.

Tylenol 4 does not even contain 1 grain of codeine..it has 1/2 of a grain.Fiorinol is not codeine at all but a barbiturate, same as tuinol,seconol,nimbutol,and tuinol.A total different class of drugs.They will show up as different class of drugs.The above info is incorrect

Whenever you have a question about drug interactions, even with grapefruit juice (no kidding, there are some drugs that react to grapefruit) CALL YOUR PHARMACY! Never risk it. Ever. Codeine is made from opium (like morphine and heroin) and is a depressant, so is alcohol. They are more than the sum of their parts. Think of it this way if you are drugged 3 out of 10 on codeine and you consume enough alcohol to be drunk a 3 out of 10 you won't end up intoxicated a 6 (3 + 3). You will be a 9 (3 x 3). Do not use alcohol with pain killers, including aspirin. Do not use alcohol with anti-depressants. Read your pill labels. And, if you do consume alcohol (or anything) with a drug and feel really unwell, if at all possible, take the pills with you to the hospital. They need to know *exactly* what is in your blood. (A helpful aside, in a lot of states only minors can be prosecuted for possession based on a blood test. Adults can have anything in their blood as long as it isn't on their person and be legally safe. It's always better to tell the doctors the truth.) Be safe! A couple of drinks just isn't worth it. There will be beer another day.

Codeine on its own tastes extremely bitter. If you have to take it in a solution it's best to mix it with something sweet like fruit squash or kool-aid.

You can but... I know there may be a depressed respiratory system issue when combining these two drugs. You wont want to be taking them long term together anyway, since sleep inducing drugs and codeine mixed will impair you, inhibiting your normal life. With that all said: I am taking a very reduced dose of trazodone to get to sleep tonight since the Tylenol #3s wear off in four hours and I'm not interested in waking up in the middle of the night with severe pain ( dental surgery yesterday) but I am highly sensitive to trazodone, I rarely take it.

You can take ibuprofen and codeine together with no adverse effects. The two work in different ways to block pain. The two are even prescribed together when a patient needs an anti-inflammatory as well as a narcotic opioid to block pain.

It all depends on the amount of Codiene and the amount of alcohol. Although it is advised on the pill bottle and recommended guidelines when you receive your prescription to try and avoid alcohol while on your medicine because alcohol increases the sedative effect which can be lethal at high doses.

So, in moderate doses of both it can be a pleasant experience but, be careful and do not use in excess because it could prove to be fatal.

It can, but isn't necessary. Codeine is a stronger analgesic and with it having ibuprofen, it has the same benefit that naproxen would have if added. Kinda like taking codeine with 2 ibuprofens. Not needed. If more pain relief is needed you would want to see about an increased dosage of codeine w/ibuprofen...

You shouldn't take ibuprofen and Naproxen together... both act the same way on the same receptors.. you'll only get more side effects and toxicity.
