First of all the gun is either a Python OR a Trooper. They are two different revolvers.The Trooper was a police issue basically. The Python was best in class,and by the way,the best revolver ever made.Pretty soon the python will be selling at 2000 bucks in good condition. Colt stopped making them around 1996.

Even a broken gun may be worth a few hundred if it still looks good (it is unlikely that anyone is going to actually shoot it). If it is in pristine condition it can bring a few thousand and if you can document its use in the Civil War (would have to be a bit older than 1865), add another thousand or so. If you can document use by the Confederacy, it could go into the tens of thousands.

First of all your 1911 was made in 1912 by Colt or Remington. It probably saw service in WW1. If your pistol is described correctly I would guess a value between $2500 and $3000. I say that amount because the 1911 is a prime military item wanted on the military market to day.....The better the condition, the better the price...

Your Gun being a five number serial starting with 42 dates back to 1911 production date. although this is an old gun what won´t help the value is that 19,300 weremade that same year.But it is still a colectors item and I have seen them go from about $500 to$700 again like any rare old item its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
