The two rocks are very different in colour; basalt is grey-brown whilst granite is pink or pale grey. They are however, both igneous rocks & may be used for construction. Granite is frequently used as the building blocks for houses, basalt is more commonly used for kerb stones.

Some famous Victorian authors are Edith Wharton, Kate Chopin, Charles Dickens, and William Thackeray. Modern age literature (modernism) was during the 1890's through the 1940's. The literature focused on moving towards modern Western ideas, religion, social conventions, and morality. Some famous modern age authors are William Faulkner, Scott Fizgerald, and Joseph Conrad.

The Federal government system in the United States is a two-way relationship between state governments and the federal government. Federalism serves as a system of checks and balance of power.

The history of the United States lends itself to such a system. Americans wanted to do away with being ruled by the King of England and wanted to build a system where no one person or power could ever take absolute power again. The federal system allows state governments to govern most issues in their territories and allows the federal government to control international policies, foreign affairs, currency and issues that would affect the nation as a whole.

I will answer this in the simplest way I know in the application I use it in; this would be in audio applications. Amplitude modulation is modulation of a carrier source's loudness; Frequency modulation is modulation of a carrier source's pitch; and Phase modulation is modulation of a carrier source's duty cycle/symmetry/timbre. One can often notice that all 3 modulation types relate in some way with another in that when frequency rises and falls it typically makes it favorable for either a rise in loudness or timbre.
