It depends on the model. The AT-400 (which is rarely found in commercial use) can cost up to $75,000 per unit. The less advanced AT-250 (which can be found in most grocery stores and discount tire outlets) can be purchased for under $10,000 depending on the country it was produced in.

This is inaccurate. An external (USB) hard drive can replace an internal drive providing that the operating system is located on the external drive AND the BIOS boot sequence is set to allow booting from a USB device as the first boot device.

Every computer has hardware problems eventually, so it's important to keep hardware diagnostic tools on hand. It could be because your computer will not boot due to a problem which could be either hardware of software related.

But you don't need to spend money on expensive tools. These five free tools can help you diagnose most hardware problems.

1. Memory Scan

It's almost impossible to diagnose a problem with your computer memory (RAM) without a memory scanner. Luckily, you don't need a special hardware memory checker-you can use a tool to boot your computer into a special mode which will check your memory. There are several good tools, but I recommend the open source MemTest86, which works on Intel-style 32-bit and 64-bit PCs.

2. CheckDisk / BadBlocks

If you think your hard drive has a problem, you need to check the whole drive for possible errors. If you find a few errors, you may be able to continue to use the drive as long as you re-check the drive on a regular basis. If you find a bunch of errors, you'll need to replace the drive.

The free tool built into Windows XP and higher to check your drive is called CHKDSK (for Check Disk). Linux bootable CDs and USB drives include a similar but more comprehensive tool called badblocks.

3. Spare Cables

Although spare cables aren't free if you buy them separately, most people who regularly buy computer accessories tend to accumulate spare cables. Don't throw out those spare cables. A surprisingly large number of hardware problems are caused by failing cables, and swapping your current cable with a spare is a simple and free way to test whether or not your problems are caused by bad cables.

Edit: actually if you were to go to google and look up how many megabytes are in a gigabyte it shows a calculator that says exactly "1 Gigabyte=1024 Megabytes"

Ideally if you don't already know, you shouldn't be doing it. Especially if you don't know about anti-static precautions. For a desktop: Ground yourself against a radiator or any earthed metal (just hold it for a few seconds) to remove any static charge you may be carrying. Unplug the power supply, open the case of the PC (may require removal of screws or undoing clips depending on the model of PC). Find the hard drive which needs replacing, it should look pretty much same as the one you have to replace it with. If there is more than one hard drive present, then you'll have to check which one needs removing before continuing. Unplug the power connector and the data cable from the back of the old hard drive. Remove the hard drive (if in a caddy you will need to swap the caddy over, which may require removal of some screws as well). Put the new hard drive in (also using the caddy if one was present). Plug the 2 cables back into the hard drive. Put the case back on. Job done!

The Intel 8085 is not even in the same class as the Intel Core 2. The architecture and instruction set is vastly different. The 8085 is an 8 bit machine, running on an 8-bit bus, with at most 64kb of RAM/ROM. The Core 2 is a 32/64 bit machine, running on 32/64/128 bit buses, with potentially more than 4gb of RAM/ROM. This is like comparing an original Volkswagon Beetle with an Indy Car.

If we are discussing computing then, software is the code or programs running on the computing device. Desktop, laptop, notepad or PDAs (personal Data Assistants) are all computing devices. There are several other devices that run software.

A good example of the line between software and hardware can be seen when we look at the BIOS chip in personal computers. The chip itself is hardware. The BIOS (Basic Input Output System) chip is specifically a ROM (Read Only Memory) chip. You can hold this chip in your hand and it has physical attributes like size, shape and weight. This is hardware. Now burned or programmed into this BIOS chip are the necessary programs to run startup test and boot up an operating system. This is software or code. You can't hold this in your hand, it is binary numbers held electronically in the chip.

Regardless of the medium being used software is the binary code, and the device is the hardware it is stored on. Even memory chips are hardware, and though it may be a temporal storage location it is still a storage location.

Software is information generally stored in a digital format. it is usually a set of instruction to run a machine. Hardware is the physical components of the machine that caries out the instructions.

A microphone port is the circular slot you can put a headset in on your computer. You can then listen to your music or watch a video without being disturbed by others.

RAMBUS memory is on a stick of RAM called a RIMM. It is the fastest RAM available but you have to have the hardware to use it. It comes in 184 pin for desktops and 160 pin for laptops. RIMMs are keyed differently than DIMMS so you can't install it in any computer. You are required to install RIMMs in pairs to use the full technology, it has a dual-channel technology. Each RIMM is 64 bits wide, but the RAMBUS alternated between two sticks to increase the speed of data retreival. RDRAM motherboards require that all RIMM slots be populated. Unused pairs of slots need a passive device called a continuity RIMM (CRIMM) installed in each slot to enable the RDRAM system to terminate properly. In other words, you have to buy a blank CRIMM to fill in the slots or it will not work properly on the motherboard.
