How can you reset the BIOS password and unlock a computer?
If it's a desktop PC, erasing the cmos memory will usually clear it. Turn the power off, remove the cover. There should be a battery, these days they use a large silver disc watch battery type. Near it should be three pins with a linker on two of them. Move it to the other side, so the middle pin is linked to the other pin. Leave it there for a few seconds and then put it back in it's original position. Replace the covers and boot up. You will then have to reset your BIOS options etc.. On Laptops, they all most always write the password to EEROM or flash memory, which don't need a battery. Unfortunately, sometimes the only way to clear these, is to remove the chip and use a programmer to load it with the latest BIOS from the manufacturer or replace it with a new one. Dell computers have a master password which is unique to each computer. That password can be obtained from Dell customer service.
What does the 'front side bus' do for a processor?
Also known as the "FSB", connects the memory and all of the other devices on your motherboard to the CPU (processor). You can think of it like a highway that carries the data around "Motherboard City". The speed of the FSB is expressed as a frequency (it's clock speed) in MHz (MegaHertz). One MHz is one million cycles per second. The FSB also has a "width", expressed in bits, such as 16 or 32 bit etc.. The wider it is, the more data can be transferred in one clock cycle. So, for example, a motherboard featuring "266 FSB" means that it's FSB runs at 266MHz and is usually 32 Bits wide. Although with "true" 64 Bit processors becoming widely available, the bit width can be 64 bits wide.
If two computers are on separate VLANs what device is required for them to exchange data?
Because each VLAN need to be on an a separate subnet, we normally need a level 3 device to lift the packages from one subnet to the other.
The simplest way of doing that is to hook up a router to the switsh, and use a so called "router on a stick"configuration. However, this is seldom done i a production environment today.
What are some examples of USB and FireWire devices?
A Plug and Play device is defined as any device which Windows supports natively with pre-installed device drivers. Plug and Play is a standard that Microsoft created with the release of Windows 95, and is still used in modern versions of Windows.

What electronic component interprets and carries out basic instructions on the computer?
CPU (central processing unit)
What is the function of the memory controller chip?
The memory controller hub in a PC -- often called the northbridge -- is one of two chips in the core logic chipset on a PC motherboard; the other chip in the set is usually called the southbridge. The northbridge typically handles communications among the CPU, the RAM, the BIOS ROM, the PCI-E (or AGP) video adapter, and the southbridge chip.
What processor does a computer have?
The maximum number of processors I have seen in home computers are generally two, but 99% of the time there is only one. However, supercomputers can have hundreds and hundreds of processors that cost more than you will ever make.
Why won't your laptop make any sound?
the probable culprit is that the audio drivers are either corrupt or missing. if missing go to the laptop manufacturer's website and look there if not try a google search or even chack out www.driverguide.com Good Luck
What does a hardware consist of?
hardware is a collection term . All hardware components may be connected mechanically , electrically with each other . It includes the cables connector , power supply units and peripherals devices Such as:-
keyboard
Mouse
Monitor
Printer Audio speakers etc
RAM can be thought of as the what for the computer processor?
Think of it as a temporary space or "Blackboard" or "workspace" for your CPU.
Like the top of your desk. Limited amounts of things can be worked on at the same time but the access is much faster for things in "Ram" or on the top of your desk. The desk drawers or file cabinets might be a hard drive or disk drive. You can still get stuff from them but slower. But they hold a lot more.
Hope this helps!
Is there any special hardware required to use a LAN?
A NIC or Network Interface Card/Connection.
Your computer should have a LAN interface. You can identify it with RJ45 socket (has 8 pin connector slightly bigger than a telephone socket). If it is there already ensure than the LAN port is enabled in operating system. This port need to be connected to a working LAN network socket which comes through a switch/hub/router.
How do you convert serial port key board or mouse to usb port?
Go to a computer accessories shop and look for the green USB to PS2 Mouse adapter. Or you can buy it online.
See the picture at this link (check that the port matches your PC mouse port):
http://www.rudyp.com/usbtops2moad.html
IMPROVED:
Please note the answer above is for converting a USB to PS2 connector, NOT USB to Serial Port.
A USB to Serial Port adapter does not, to my knowledge, exist. So please verify if you want a PS/2 (small, round connector) or Serial Port (long, flat connection with many pins)
Also, the color of the adapter may vary.
That is a relative judgement. The motherboard is one of the more expensive parts of a computer. On the other hand, it's cheaper than a whole new computer. Also, they vary in price, depending on the processor and the quality and features of the board. Prices (US, early 2011) range from $70 to $300 (not including processor and memory).
IS a PCI Express x16 bus or the latest AGP bus faster?
PCI Express 2.0 x 16 is the Fastest But PCI Express x16 is faster than AGP
Define the term peripheral devices?
Peripheral devise are the computer devices that are connected to the computer externally such as printer, scanner, keyboard, mouse, tape device, microphone and external modem. They can be internal such as CD-ROM or internal modem and external as the scanner, printer and Zip drive. Peripheral devices can be classified according to their functions.
Input
Input devices are the type of the computer devices that are used to provide the control signals to the computer. Keyboard and the Mouse are the examples of the input devices.
Output
Output devices are the devices that are used to display the results. Printer, scanner, speaker and the monitor are the examples of the output devices.
Storage
A storage device is a device that is used to store the information such as hard disk drive, flash drive, floppy disk and the tape drive.
What does the power supply unit do?
It takes the mains supply and converts it to various lower voltages, suitable for the electronics in the computer.
Usually
5v
12v
3v
What do the plus and minus signs in Windows Explorer mean?
The plus and minus signs indicate that you can expand or collapse that particular path location (i.e. drive or folder) to show or hide additional sub-sections of the path of a particular file. For example, click on the plus sign on the My Computer icon to expand and see all the drives that incorporate My Computer or click on the minus sign of a folder to hide the sub-folders that exist for that folder.

So, you can quickly check whether power connection to your hp printer is proper or there is some problem. If you find any issue, just solve it and make power connection proper.
Who are the main computer processor manufacturers?
By chips, I will assume you mean CPU's.
Intel and AMD currently dominate the CPU market and that shows no sign of changing. ARM Holdings design all the chips currently used in smartphones, but they don't manufacture them, just like Nvidia.
Is a kilobyte bigger than a megabyte?
Yes.
A megaBYTE is equivalent to (2^20 - 1) unique values, or a little more than one million values.
A kilobyte is equivalent to (2^10-1) unique values, or a little more than one thousand values.
How do you fix a power surge on a hub port?
This really isn't that big of a deal. Just check all your usb cables and ports to make sure there are no pieces of metal within the ports and cable connectors which is most likely the cause of the power surge.
Differences between 115 volt and 120 volt?
These are different ways of measuring voltages. In the united states, people often refer to the standard household electricity as "110 volt", because that is close to the average voltage over time that the sine wave will be at. 115 is was MOST electric companies actually produce, on average, and 120 volt is the RMS measurement of that voltage. The peak voltage at the top and bottom of the sine wave will usually be close to 125 volts. For more information, please google for how AC works.
