On computer keyboards, the Esc key is a key labeled Esc or Escape that is used to generate the ASCII Escape character (Control-[, ASCII code 27 in decimal), the character code traditionally used to initiate an escape sequence. As most computer users no longer are concerned with the details of controlling their computer's peripherals, the task for which the escape sequences were originally designed, the escape key was appropriated by application programmers, most often to mean Stop. Another use for the Esc key, in combination with the Command key, is switching to Front Row, if installed. There are many inventive sequences which can produce 'faces'. Due to the way characters follow along a line of text, almost all examples are produced on their side and are best viewed from the side.

Examples are -

There are lots more - have a go yourself by looking at each keyboard character and imagine what facial feature it might represent. Remember that it is how it looks from the side.

Many more shapes can be found in the numerous different fonts available. An example - use c for a bump on the top of a head or 8 for a pair of specs.

the keyboard was around long before the mouse. the mouse didn't come onto it's own until operating systems became gui.

alpha numeric keys this is for typing an alphabet in the monitor.

numeric keys this is for typing a number in the monitor.

escape key this is pressed when you want to escape./

arrow keys to move down,up,right and left.

function keys to refresh,to shut down and etc.

space bar to make a space to your paragraph or sentence

Make sure your Number Lock is on. Hold down the Alt button. Use the number pad on your keyboard (not the top row) and enter the numbers 173, then release the Alt key. Your upside-down exclamation point will then appear.

First, there will be no limit on the simultaneous key presses (6 on USB). And when you use USB the computer is using CPU time polling your keyboard, with PS2 the keyboard isn't polled at all, the keyboard sends a signal straight to the computer each time you press a key.

Put your numeric lock on. Hold Alt and at the same time, on the numeric pad, type 0186 and release the alt key. There will be the degrees sign like this: º. Then you just have to type the c after it. Like this: 25ºC

The keyboard is a flat board with buttons which you use to type letters. They are called keys. The keyboard itself is a board full of them. Therefore, keyboard. It's just as flat as a board and the word just fits well.

By the way, you WILL notice there is a pair of little bumps, one on the F key and the other on the J key. These are what I call the Home Row ridges. The home row consists of A, S, D, F, J, K, L, ; keys and the space bar. The left pinkie goes on A, the left ring finger goes on S, the left middle finger goes on D, the left index finger goes on F, the right index finger goes on J, the right index finger goes on K, the right ring finger goes on L, and the right pinkie goes on ; key. Lastly, both of your thumbs belong to the space bar.

The home row ridges are there to help some professional typists so that they get their fingers on the correct keys, since they NEVER look at the keyboard while typing.

There is just one keyboard shortcut used to left-align a paragraph in Microsoft Word. 'Ctrl+L' are the keys used in this shortcut.
