How data is stored inside the computer?

They are stored in the form of bits or bytes. More information can be found here:

What is a permanent magnetic storage inside a computer called?

There are several. The Hard Drive is probably the most robust as it does the majority of storage of data. Any internally installed plate based drive uses magnets as opposed to laser to read and write data (laser read/write drives are CD, DVD, Blu-Ray).

In addition, the computers memory card functions as a short term hard drive though I think these are not magnet based, ie putting a memory card up to a magnet will not delete all of the data.

Is a network-ready device a device that may be attached to a network but still has to connect to a network computer first?

A network ready device is a device that has the potential to connect to a network, natively it isn't connected to a network, nor is it a network, but with the appropriate configuration and possibly with the addition of components could be connected.

Where can one find used laptops for cheap prices?

Not only can one get a bargain, but can examine the item prior to purchasing to be sure it is in good working condition. Other places to look for bargains on used laptop computers are eBay, Craigslist, Amazon and local classified advertisements.

When installing a device why would you prefer to use a pci expansion slot rather that an isa expansion slot?

PCI has several advantages over ISA, that make it a better choice for most devices.

1. PCI is several times faster. ISA is an 8/16-bit interface that runs on an 8 MHz bus. PCI is a 32/64 bit interface that runs on a 33 or 66 MHz bis. Thus more data is able to transfer to and from the PCI bus.

2. PCI was built with Plug 'n' Play support in mind. No special configuration is needed when you install PCI cards. When installing ISA cards, you will often have to configure jumpers on them to specify an interrupt and DMA channel, and many cards can be incompatible with each other.

3. ISA is all but absent from modern computers. One of the requirements for a computer to bear the "Made for Windows 2000" sticker was the removal of the ISA bus. So there have not been any major ISA motherboard vendors in 10 years.

Is computer serial or parallel device?

Neither. A computer case is just a box to hold the parts of a computer. It provides no form of communication itself.

The computer has created a major impact on modern human life how has the computer affected your life?

I'll give you some things:

1. I can work from home for a company that has no physical office. ALL my work is the computer, then I email my time sheets and work in. My pay check is direct deposited. I have never met my boss or any coworkers. We are scattered across the US.

2. All my doctors have instant access to ALL my medical records becuase they are all in the same hospital network. I can't express how great this is!

3. I can video confrence with anyone who has a computer and the same program as me. I live 2,000 miles from my family and get to see them on a weekly basis using video chat. My young niece and nephew know my face, and know me. In the past it would have just been me trying to talk to them on the phone and they'd be "Who is this voice? Is this really a person?"

4. Email! I can type up a document and get it across the world in seconds, instead of waiting a minimum of a few days for snail mail to get it there.

5. Computer games. I play MMO's. So I play with people all over the world to accomplish goals. Not only do I get to make new friends, I get something to entertain myself with.

How can you protect your software on the computer?

The best way is to do an 'image' (a kind of snapshot) of your disk drive and save it to a different drive. There are many software tools to do that... one which works well for Windows and is free is BootitNG. When you need, or go through a disaster, you can override the disk drive with its older image and restore it to what it contained then. This is foolproof compared to Windows System Restore (I do not know much about its Apple equivalent Time Machine so I cannot comment.

Imaging software has been developed for rapid deployment of systems on numerous machines.

Should you buy a desktop or tablet?

What are you going to do with it? If you need to save space or travel a lot, buy a replacement like a laptop. If you just want to replace your old PC with a new one. Just buy another desktop. If you ALSO want to save space but it will stay at the same place. Buy yourself a desktop AND a FLATSCREEN monitor (TFT).

Why computer does not run without memory?

because the computer has no where to store it's files. The computer wont even start up without memory.

Does Staples sell quality desktop computers?

Yes Staples.com does sell computers. It is very expensive but can be done. Staples is a very amazing place , it has just about anything there. The computers there are also reliable.

What is meant by hot-swapping devices?

Hot-swapping refers to the removal and/or addition (swapping) of hardware into a computer system while it is running.

On a normal desktop computer this is a very stupid thing to do and will result in damaged hardware and/or electrocution, but file servers are often designed specifically to allow the replacement of certain components (usually hard drives or power supplies) without powering the machine down. This is done by having redundant hardware that kicks in when needed allowing the device in question to be powered off and removed.

What is RAR in the computer?

It's an archive. Can easily be unpacked with B1 Free Archiver.

What is the process when a file is copied and pasted in a computer?

First, go to "Insert".

Second, click "Picture".

Third, click "From File".

Fourth, choose your file.

Fifth, choose the image.

Sixth, click "Insert". (NOT AT THE TOP!)

For another pic, repeat process.

What does a computing platform include?

Computing platforms include a computer architecture, an operating system, and Runtime libraries. A computing platform is a place where software is launched and is essential in any computer functioning properly.

What are the advantages of building a computer system?

The custom built computer will usually have the maximum amount of Random Access Memory installed on the motherboard, a hard disc drive which is very large, and periphreal equipment which is tailored to the users needs. However, a custom built computer does not qualify for any tech support, other than what the builder will offer. Nor is there a warranty, other than what the builder will offer. Software will have to be purchased seperately in most cases, and there are usually no bundles available such as large manufactures offer.

Some things you should know before buying separate parts for your custom build:

Make sure the FSB for the Motherboard match the FSB requirements for the CPU(as well as core2duo, core2quad ect.), and RAM. Ex.: 1333/1066FSB motherboard needs a 1333 or 1066 CPU.

Decide on wether you want a full-sized mtoherboard or a micro. (Amounts of slots available for cards differ between them)

Heres a list of all the parts you would need to make it work:

1. Motherboard

2. CPU

3. RAM

4. Video Card (If you don't want to use motherboard video)

5. Sound Card (if you don't want to use motherboard sound)

6. Hard Drive

7. Case (Full Tower to provide the most room for upgrades)

8. Wireless Card (if you have a wireless router)

9. Power Supply

10. CD/DVD Drive

11. OS Installation Disk

What is the definition of computer data storage?

The definition of computer storage is a data storage that is often called storage of memory refer to computer components and recordings media that retains digital data used.

Where is the first computer now?

Scrapped.

Only modern recreations exist of the Atanasoff Berry Computer and Colossus. The MIT Differential Analyzer (mechanical analog) and Harvard Mark 1 (electromechanical) are completely gone. Roughly half a dozen of the 40 panels of ENIAC still exist and four of those work.

The modern recreations and the remaining ENIAC panels are in museums.

What are megabytes?

The prefix mega- means "1 million", and a byte is usually made up of 8 bits, so:

  • A megabit (Mbit) is
    • 1,000,000 bits
    • 1,000 kilobits (kbit)
  • A megabyte (MB) is
    • 1,000,000 bytes (B)
    • 1,000 kilobytes (kB)
    • 8,000,000 bits
    • 8,000 kilobits (kbit)

In some contexts, people in the computing and information technology industry use the prefix mega differently. Because digital computing is based upon a binary numbering system, mega- in many cases meant 1,048,576, while in others it meant 1,000,000.

With the increase in use of, and access to, the technology by persons with little or no education in digital computing, or experience of this historical meaning, the prefixes mega- and kilo- etc. became confusing because of their ambiguous meanings.

With the increase in storage capacities, the discrepancy between the two measurement systems became much larger and more important, and the old meaning of mega in the binary numbering system is now, therefore, formally known as megabinary.
