Absolutely. Marine hermit crabs (saltwater hermit crabs) also, like the land hermit crab, have a soft abdomen that is not protected by a hard exoskeleton, so they scavenge shells from snails as they grow to wear for protection.

The marine hermit crab will also shed it's exoskeleton as it grows. This is a very fast process, taking only a few hours to a day compared to the molting process of the land hermit crab, which can take several days to a few months.

The near-shore zone comes next on the ocean side and the splash zone is on the shore side.

Your crab being naked could be a sign of one of many things. It could mean he is sick, didn't like his shell or the choices of shells you provide, about to molt, or that the tank environment is too harsh.

The most you can do really is just keep offering him shells. But if the crab has been naked for a week, there isn't much hope. Unshelled for that long usually means they are on the way out.

No because the coy is a fast growing, aggresive fish. The goldfish is a slow moving fish and very docile. The coy, once it outgrows the goldfish will start to eat the fins and constantly attack them. I have seen it happen many times with people who think they mix well. They will however live together in a large outdoor pond if there is enough room, food and cover.

well i just got a hermt crab and it said on the sheet to let him bath in water so i did butt then all of a sudden his big claw turned purple dose any one know what you think might have happened

a hermit crab needs more than one friend normally. you should have a plastic or glass aquarium. crabby will need a hermie hut and a food bowl or shell. your crab will need water and something to climb on. and best of all a loving home.

You will know when your hermit crab is about to die because it will not move in the shell. When it is not moving it starts to fall out of its shell.

Like my hermit crabs 2 of them died and now I only have 1. The first and second one did the same thing of course but they both fell out.

You also know when a hermit crab dies, when they a pale or there skin is different. They will not hide into there shell at all.

You're asking if a pet shop is a good place to buy a hermit crab? I can only tell you my experience. I have bought three hermit crabs from PetSmart over the years. None of them have lived very long. But the one I bought on the boardwalk at the Jersey shore has lived for 11 years. I would recommend buying them from someplace as close to the ocean as possible, as I believe they are healthier than at most pet stores. But maybe I just got lucky.
Don't buy them through the mail, they won't last long.

Males are Jimmies and females are Sally or she crab for immature crabs and Sook for a mature female.
