What are some causes of cyberbulling?
A little background here: in August of 1971, sponsored by the Office of US Naval Research, the US Navy and Marine Corps, Dr. Phillip Zimbardo, with twenty-four student volunteers conducted the infamous Stanford Prison Experiment. They were to study the dynamics that developed between guards and prisoners. This is important for this answer for one reason: although Dr. Zimbardo shut down the experiment early to protect volunteers, he has continued to analyze and study the data he gained from the failed experiment. What he determined is that most aggressive, bullying behavior rises primarily out of two factors: lack of education or training, and boredom.
Cyberbullying is likely the result of these two factors as well, at least to some degree.

Why am i a bully?
Why am i a bully?
Why do i want to make kids cry?
When i got found out today,
My parents asked me why?
Do you think its clever
Making others feel so sad?
Would i pick on others
Who were tall, tough or bad?
'So you think you're really hard?'
My parents frowned and said
I stood there shuffling awkwardly
I mumbled and lowered my head
I'd seen it on the telly
I'd listened to teachers and stars
But i hadn't listened hard enough
And now it had gone too far
The kids that i had picked on
Had spoken out that day
They wouldn't give in any more
They said they wouldn't pay
As i left across the yard
The kids all stopped and stared
My parents either side of me
Hardly spoke a word
I turned and looked
And heard the sound of laughter,
joy and play
I knew that if i changed my ways
I might join in with them one day!
What is the best approach to cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying can happen for a number of reasons, and it is interesting to note that it is not always intentional. At times, children may not even realize that they are involved in a case of bullying, and may be unaware of the consequences of their actions. Four types of cyberbullies have been identified by Wired Kids , and parents can be watchful for these types of behaviors in your child and their friends: * The "Vengeful Angels" see themselves as righting wrongs, or protecting themselves or others from the "bad guy" whom they are now victimizing. * The "Power Hungry" want to exert their authority, show that they are powerful enough to make others do what they want, and some want to control others with fear. * The "Mean Girls" are ego-driven bullies who are bored or looking for entertainment. * Finally, the "Inadvertent Cyberbullies" may be pretending to be tough online, or role playing, or they may be reacting to hateful or provocative messages they have received.
What problems can cyberbullying cause?
People that are easily targeted by bullies can't seem to ignore the insults even though they come from a source that offers no accountablity and often comes from total strangers. I was amazed when I first started answering questions on this site how many people gave very hurtful and insulting answers to people they didn't even know. In short I guess people that don't have much confidence in themselves tend to believe all that trash that other folks throw at them. It's sad too because most of the people being bullied will figure out eventually how to overcome it and become successful citizens later on.

Parents, Teachers, Principals and other school professionals are completely aware of traditional bullying on the playground and classroom and may take serious steps to intervene, but often what goes on in cyberspace is much harder to monitor, leaving children alone to deal with a cyberbully's online taunts.
So, there are few steps that Schools, colleges and parents can take to stop cyberbullying:
Bring Awareness - Make sure to set time aside for a special discussion in the classroom and during parent teacher meetings to raise awareness and discourage cyberbullying.
Use Internet monitoring software to monitor online activities - Since neither the parents nor teachers can stay with a child 24/7, the best way to ensure a child is safe online is to use Internet monitoring software like Safetyweb.com to monitor their online activities, reputation, and safety. Safetyweb requires no download or installations, thus it is easy to use.
Have a School Counselor on Campus - Having a qualified counselor on campus to assist the students can prove to be a great help in discussing any problems students are having regarding cyber bullying.
Provide Interventions and Mediation - If the cyber bullying happens regularly at your school, find a way to provide intervention between the victims and the cyber bullies through a mediator or a counselor.

The proposed federal law would make it illegal to use electronic means to "coerce, intimidate, harass or cause other substantial emotional distress."

How do you know if your a cyberbully?
You will know if your a cyberbully if you talk about someone repeatly and knowingly and you know that this hurts the other persons feelings. For example: Barry emails Paul calling him fat or uglyand/or threating him ,and Paul replies "No I'm not so stop calling me names!"or "No your not or else I'm going to tell my Mother!" That lets you know okay I'm picking on him and offending him so maybe I need to stop before I get in trouble. If your were to do it at home it's just a bully , when you do it over the internet it's called a cyberbully.!!

Getting over a break up can be tough. Sometimes, it's even hard for both sides--after all, breaking up is not easy to do. It hurts to throw away your story with someone--all the good memories and the dreams and plans you two had for the future. Mending a broken heart takes time and patience. How does cyberbulling affect people?
The effects on a person of cyberbullying is: feeling very hurt that a person or group would target them and say the things they do for no apparent reason other than being mean spirited ... feelings of being lonely ... fear ... afraid to go to school ... a drop in grades ... fear of leaving their home ... dread going to school ... becoming paranoid so it's difficult to make new friends ... a feeling of helplessness (not knowing who to go to for help) ... depression for the victim of cyberbullying ... in severe cases of constant cyberbullying suicide MAY occur. The issues of cyberbullying are being taken very seriously in the U.S. and Canada and it's an offence! The best thing to do is not to respond back to the bully(s) if you have to see them at school try to ignore them go to your school counselor or, talk to your parents. Remember, cyberbullies will pick on one person and if you cease to ignore them they will move on to bully other victims. Cyberbullies are generally a product of their environment where they are verbally or physically abused or, they may be just spoiled rotten and bored enough to make other people's lives miserable. In groups of Cyberbullies they feel they are strong because they are together and feed off each other, but, inwardly some don't enjoy this so-called sport, but don't know how to move away from it for fear of being cyberbullied themselves.
