What was a group that did not prosper in the 1920s?
idk i wanna know too
seriously some one should answer this
It was farmers, while a thriving middle class enjoyed whatever newfangled gadgets and conveniences its hard-earned money could buy, the nations wealth was concentrated at the very top. A third of the country's income went to just 5 percent of families, while the bottom 42 percent struggled to earn subsustence-level wages. Farmers endured hard time in the 1920s because the government had paid farmers high prices for a ton of things like wheat, corn and other crops. After the war when prices fell and the government contracts ended many farmers went from prosperity into debt. You're welcome =)
Now, why did the middle and upper classes thrive, exactly?
What political party dominated the 1920s?
After the Kaiser (Wilhelm II) fled, due to the loss of World War 1, Germany went into a state of Political instability. Fredrick Ebert, the leader of the Social Democrats Party, became the new socialist leader of Germany. Although the Social Democrats had power, they didn't have control.
A political party called the Spartacists (later the German Communist Party) clashed heavily with Ebert and attempted many government overthrows. None of these were successful and when Ebert held an election, the Social Democrats won the majority of seats.
In 1919, Germany became the Weimar Republic and this republic did not fall until 1933. Ebert remained president until 1923 and the Social Democrats had the majority in parliament for this time.
Note: On the 13th of March 1920, Wolfgang Kapp, an extreme nationalist who hated the government for signing the Treaty of Versailles, staged a Putsch. The Kapp Putsch was support by the police and the Friekorps but not the workers.
Kapp overthrew the government, who fled from Berlin, and was the ruler of Germany for a total of 100 hours. Because the workers refused to comply, Berlin became paralysed, with no coal, water, gas or transport. The government also refused to give Kapp any money. Kapp eventually gave in and fled to Sweden.
Ebert and the rest of the Weimar government were about to return to Berlin as if nothing had happened.
What was the scare that developed in the US following World War 1 related to?
The so-called "First Red Scare" erupted in the aftermath of World War I. During World War I, Bolshevik Communists had overthrown the government of Russia, set up a ruthless and oppressive government, and caused a terrible civil war to break out. Additionally, when World War I ended, Bolshevik-inspired Communists in other countries- particularly Germany, Italy, and Hungary- started large scale revolts, although these were ultimately unsuccessful.
In light of this, Americans became fearful of a similar revolt in the US. Large-scale labor strikes in the lead up to American entry in World War I seemed to substantiate that fear. Then in 1919, the government uncovered a plot by anarchist and communist groups to mail package bombs to major government and business leaders. At this point, Attorney General Palmer ordered the Justice Department and the predecessor agency to the FBI to hunt down and arrest possible communist and anarchist agitators. This campaign became known as the Palmer Raids and lasted until 1920.
It is called the First Red Scare because a second Red Scare, dominated by the actions of Senator Joseph McCarthy, would follow the aftermath of World War II. And they were called "red" scares because red is a color commonly associated with Communism.
It was the 1920s not the 1910s and it was the Ku Klux Klan who were and still are hostile to Jews, Catholics and African-Americans.
Explain cause and effects of the Great Depression?
The Great Depression was caused by a vicious cycle Ð banks were lending too much money to people who could not pay the banks back. This caused thousands to go out of business as banks stopped lending money. At the same time, too many people were borrowing money to use on risky investments. This caused heavy debt. Since factories could not borrow money, they had to lay off people as demand for products dropped. By the time President Hoover reacted, it was too little too late. The effects of the Great Depression included a 25 percent unemployment rate, about 6000 banks closing, the marriage and birth rate declined sharply as did the US total production of goods and just about everybodyÕs income was cut in half leaving many homeless.

How far did the roles of women change during the 1920s?
In the 1920s in some countries - such as in European countries, USA, Canada, Australia, etc. - women were able to work outside the home more and they were no longer regarded only as housewives and mothers or just as "slaves" to the men. Women began to have more equal chances to work in many different professions and in several other areas. For instance they were able to play sports professionally, e.g. tennis.
However, in countries situated in the Middle East, Africa, etc., hardly any of those new roles became possible for women.
How was the Republican political themes in the 1920s a success?
'theme's' is an interesting concept during the 1920s both the democrats and the republicans tried to repesent themselves as pro-business, the belief of rugged individualism and lassiez faire, both had conservative and liberial wings and both were generally opposed to granting black civil rights. The democrats were on the whole more likely to support tarrifs but the main difference was in foreign policy and prohibition. In the 1920 election, Warren Harding represented a change away from the largely unsuccesful reforms of Roosevalt and Wilson's foreign policies. Many argue that the 1920 presidential election was the end of the progressive era. Wilson had been pushing for entry to the league of nations, something that seemed to conflict with middle America patriotism. The United States had fought a war of independence against Britain, a war against slavery in the south and imperailism in world war one. The United States did not want to be subject to a foregin power(s) again. Harding's 'return to normalcy' struck a bell into the hearts of ordinary American's who saw Harding as representing small town America(the majority of the population still lived in rural areas and small towns in the 1920s).
Scandal soon broke out in late 1921 over the corruption of the Harding adminstration and to spite economic recovery the Republicans suffered a large defeat loosing much of their majority. To spite Harding's popularity his death in 1923 allowed Republicans to blame the scandal on him and lead to his Vice president, Calvin Coolige to victory. The 1924 election is an interesting one because of the conflict in the democratic party. The party was in a real sense a coalition of two party's first a regional southern party and second a big city pro-immigrant liberal party. The party's sharp division can be seen in the fact that it took over 103 ballots before a candiate could be nominated and the faied denoncement of the KKK. The democrats had another problem, senator Robert M. LaFollette had split from the republicans and forming a new progressive party. The new party meant many liberal democrats ended up supporting LaFollette especially after the conservative, John W Davis received nomination. Coolidge won by a landslide victory with 382 of the electoral vote.

How was the economy during the 1920s?
The economic situation in the 1920s were that the Roaring Twenties was cooling down. The age of prosperity, and wealth, showed warning signs of forthcoming poverty. Since everyone was buying during the Roaring Twenties, usually on credit, they got into debt. Simultaneously, many people realized that they where in debt, and then therefore tried to sell their stocks. On Black Tuesday, the stock market crashed. On that day, everybody was selling. There was not a single buyer. Overproduction in factories put farmers, dress factory workers and railroad workers in dept. Since women's skirts were shorter, they didn't need as much fabric. Now everybody had a car because of Henry Ford's assembly line, which made the car affordable. Farmers overproduced, because during WWI, the allied powers needed food, since the war was being fought in their countries. Farmers kept on producing, and bought more land or tractors on loans. They then couldn't pay back the loans because nobody needed that much produce anymore. Overproduction was the key factor in launching the U.S into the Depression Era.
Extra Fact; Calvin Coolidge was the President of the U.S during the Roaring Twenties. Herbert Hoover was President during the Depression Era.
What event in the US started the Great Depression in 1929?
There were several major causes of the Great Depression in the United States. 1. Unequal distribution of wealth. There was not a large middle class. While wages were rising for the majority of workers, they were not keeping pace with the increase in the cost of living or the wealth in the hands of the industrialists and others in the upper income classes. 2. There was over speculation in the Stock Market, which was not regulated. Many Americans purchased stock on credit. This was known as margin buying. 3. Increased manufacturing and agricultural output, but wages that did not keep pace for the consumers to purchase all that was produced or grown. Hence, inventories increased and agricultural income remained low. 4. Buying on credit, known in the 1920s as installment buying. People purchased things like refrigerators on time, and did not have money to pay for the product in the future, when the bills became due. 5. Federal regulations on businesses also contributed to the cause. Especially favorable to the large corporations were the taxes laws which were written to encourage business expansion. 6. Banks were permitted to speculate in land and the stock market with little government regulations. 7. High tariffs and war debts helped spread the depression world wide. 8. The Stock Market Crash of 1929 signaled the beginning of the Great Depression.
