if a dog is on heat (bleeding from her vulva), yes she is ready to be mated but sometimes if your dog is realy hard to impregnate you need to get hormone tests to test the exact day she is likely to get pregnant

I would suggest you take him to a vet or animal emergency hospital. Do not attempt to give him an enema. There may be intestinal blockage that needs to be surgically treated.

At about 5 to six weeks old, one to two times a day,start to offer the puppies a mush. (This is a mixture of puppy food soaked in warm water). It is more readily accepted if it is warm. Put a dish of clean water for them to get used to it at each feeding too.Increase the feeding times to 4 times a day as the puppies eat more increase the amount. They will make a mess of it and get more on them than in them but they will get the hang of it. By the time the puppies are 8 weeks old they should be mostly on the puppy food and off their mothers milk. As the puppies nurse less the mother will start to produce less milk and help in this process.

Phenergan is the brand name for the medication promethazine. This medication is used mainly as an anti-nausea treatment for people. In dogs it is used as an anti-histamine, although it's not the most commonly prescribed--usually only if other meds haven't worked effectively.

In both people and dogs it acts as both an anti-histamine and an anti-nausea.

For dogs, the anti-histamine dosage is 1mg/kg (2.2lbs), usually twice daily. It is not generally prescribed for nausea in dogs, but I have used it successfully as such a treatment numerous times, using the same dosage guidelines (1mg/kg), but administering the medication every 4 hours until vomiting ceases. However, only once did I ever have to administer a second dose to any of my dogs.

Keep in mind, I am not a vet (and not affiliated with any vet or with the makers of phenergan or promethazine--covering my a**, here!), and of course cannot recommend the usage of any medication for any animal (and would recommend you consult your vet). I am just telling of my personal experience with the medicine.

Also, the possibility for drug interactions does exist, especially with medications for anti-anxiety, narcotics for pain, other anti-histamines (like benadryl), and anti-depressants.

The pups can be detected by the vet fairly early on, but this is quite expensive and not all practices have the equiptment. Otherwise look out for the symptoms that she is pregnant, her belly will get larger like a human and you may feel the pups move, definatly the week before the birth. Dogs and cats will generally eat grass if they have an upset stomach. If it's a puppy the dog may eat bark or bushes because they are teething. Some dogs do it just for fun and there is really no nutritional value in it. My 7 month old pup will get pieces of bark and bring it in the house and flip it around and one time he even brought in a large branch off a tree! Most of the time, you don't need to do anything to help a beagle to give birth except to provide her with a safe place to have her puppies. Offer her a small drink of water from time to time, when she is resting between puppies, and make sure that the puppies stay warm and that she licks them as soon as they are born. You can help her dry them off by rubbing them with a clean towel. If she is very active while giving birth you can place the pups that are already born in a small box on a heating pad, but make sure that they don't get over heated. Return them to her during the times when she is calm.

They are not mean if bred correctly. They do have a tendency to be dog aggressive, however a well balanced pit will not be mean towards puppies.

Pit bulls are not mean at all it depends on the owner. If you keep them cooped up and never pay attention to them they will be but all the pit bulls have met have been really good dogs. I have a pit bull mix and he is the most nice puppy you will ever meet. In fact he is a complete gentlemen and my aunts dog is old and he is a sweetheart and he will lay by you and wag his tail. I would say the only thing bad about pit bulls if they are raised right is their hard tail that will hurt you if it hits you but other wise if you can train them right you will have a wonderful and loyal companion not only that but a best friend.

when female dogs are ready to bread, they'll start to act up and acting a little more wild. if you choose not to bread your dog, that's fine. just make sure you keep her away from any guy dogs during the breeding season, or else she will get pregnant. my suggestion is to get her fixed so she can't have any babies.

Your Vet easily can. If you know there is a chance the dog is pregnant, immediately take her in and get her the (usually) one injection as soon as possible. The earlier the better.

Dogs are like people in this respect -- you can abort an unwanted pregnancy without being "fixed".

I am not sure what your question is here. I think you are asking if a dog can have puppies with one of its baby's? If so then my answer is no. A mom and a son cannot have puppies, but a Dad and a daughter can. I would not recommend either one of them because there is too much inbreeding going on already. I would not breed your dogs unless they are AKC registered anyways. If they are not please take them to the vet and get them spayed or neutered before they have any more puppies!

Can they - yes, but puppies should stay with mom and the litter until 8 weeks of age. Usually as they start on solid foods, mom comes around less and less but it is important to allow them the full 8 weeks or longer to be together. This is a critical learning stage for the puppies to develop dog social skills that will aid them later in life. It is a proven fact that puppies taken earlier have a higher percentage of developing behaviorial issues as they grow up.

I have a shih tzu (pronounced shee zoo), and he is pretty much a puppy, but one that barks, not yips. I get him the little cartons of food, like cesar, which you can get in food lion or even walmart, I believe. I would stay away from the grocery store brands of food. Stay away from foods with corn, by-products, wheat, soy, gluten, and dyes. Go with holistic foods like Canidae, Natural Balance, Wellness, Solid Gold, Fromm, Eagle Pack, or Innova. Make sure it says for puppies or All Life Stages if it says ALS then that means based on the weight of the dog you feed twice as much as you would feed an adult dog that is the same weight. If you research Holistic or Natural foods you will get a whole list of different foods that are good for your puppy. Also dont just feed wet food because if you only feed the wet food as a puppy they will never learn to eat dry food and buying wet food is more expensive then buying dry food. Hope that helps!

Yes, this is possible. The resulting offspring are known as hybrids and can be very difficult to own due to their wild and destructive nature. Owning a hybrid is also illegal in many countries. (I have had experience with wolf hybrids and know that they really do not make good pets).

This will depend upon the exact state of the testicles. If both testicles are retained within the body wall, the dog will be infertile and produce no viable sperm. If only one testicle is retained within the body wall and the other has descended into the scrotum, the dog will produce viable sperm but likely have a low sperm count. If only one testicle is retained but it is outside the body wall although not in the scrotum, the dog will produce viable sperm and may have a normal sperm count.

However, cryptorchidism (retained testicles) is a highly inherited condition, and it is likely that the dog would pass this defect on to his offspring. For this reason, most veterinarians and responsible breeders will advocate for the dog to be castrated and removed from the breeding pool.

The mother canine will tend for her young ... it's best not to handle these puppies until they are "weaned" from their mother - about eight weeks after birth. If the parent dog is not doing this, contact your veterinarian for advice.
