Can a dog eat puppy food?

They should always have food available to nibble on. Never feed your puppy from the table. It only encourages begging.

At three to four weeks, puppies should begin eating some solid food. You can try mixing three parts food with one part water or puppy replacement milk .

Can a dog with one testicle be bred?

The odds are against it but you never know. The male that has only one testicle down, should be neutered for his own health's sake as the testicle that retained inside of him will most likely turn cancerous and cause his death eventually. This condition is also an inherited trait and can be passed along in the gene pool, so you would not wish to breed an animal with this condition, mono orchid-ism is what it is called I believe (meaning one testicle in Latin).

Can cats have multiple litters after one fertilization?

Cats

are seasonally polyestrous, which means they may have many heat periods over the course of a year. A heat period lasts about 4 to 7 days if the female is bred; if she is not, the heat period lasts longer and recurs at regular intervals.

The male cat's penis has spines which point backwards. Upon withdrawal of the penis, the spines rake the walls of the female's vagina. The female needs this stimulation for ovulation to begin. Because of this, females are rarely impregnated by the first male with which they mate. Furthermore, cats are superfecund; that is, a female may mate with more than one male when she is in heat, meaning different kittens in a litter may have different fathers.

When can puppies go out?

Let me answer by saying that it's not dependent on his age so much as his vaccination schedule. It's BEST to wait until 2 weeks after he's had his 3 main sets of vaccinations and his first rabies vaccination (unless your vet decides to wait until 6 months do do his first rabies vaccination) to be absolutely safe. This should all be done by 13-16 weeks old, depending how young he was when he had his first set. However, you CAN take him out 2 weeks after his second set, but should avoid areas where other dogs are or have been recently, as he is still susceptible to some diseases they might be carrying. Also if you walk him during this time, you should be careful not to let him keep his face to the ground a lot, and should wash his paws when he comes back inside.

NEVER set your dog out with out you.. EVER.. Another dog could hurt your dog, your dog could potty in the yard next door, (not nice) could see something to chase and go into the street (get hit by car).

All shots should be given before any dog is out side. Also, when you go to the vet, try to keep your pet off the floor, see then sterilize the exam table and bring a rubber mat for your pet to be on, they do not like the slippery table.

Is it good for a puppy to sleep a lot?

Hes tired...remember he is only small and is still growing, so he will need to sleep lots.

I suggest you walk him when he is awake so that he doesnt become lazy...that might make him more active however it also means he will sleep longer too.

Why do dogs get stuck together?

This part of the mating process is called the tie. The tie happens when the male's penis swells after ejaculation and the female's vagina squeezes to ensure that the semen gets and stays inside her. Usually what happens after mating is the male will twist around so that the two animals are facing in opposite directions. They will be 'tied' together. They may whine as if they are in distress however this is normal in a natural breeding. If you try to separate them it may cause injury. Be patient and keep both dogs calm. They will separate after about twenty to thirty minutes. A tie is NOT needed for a female to become pregnant.

Why does your puppy hiccup?

it might be serious if your dog is having hiccups especially if 3 years old or up , it can be having a serious heart problem that's what came out with my bullmastiff doesnt seems like important at first and i waited thinking its normal for 2 months or so but came out he has an enlarged heart so if you are suspicious and your dog is not a pupy any more please go get a blood test and x ray for his lungs and heart be sure there is no heart enlargement or heartworms.

Can dogs be separated while mating?

Do you mean "what do you do to get dogs seperated after matimg?"?

If this is your question, the answer is 'Nothing'

Here is an article on how dogs mate When copulating, a male canine initially mounts the female from behind, as with most tetrapods, a position known informally as doggy style. The female will hold her tail to the side (called "flagging") and allow this if receptive. If unreceptive she may sit or lie down, snap, move away, or otherwise be uncooperative or not allow mating. The male will often move about as he tries to get a good purchase upon her, and whilst attempting penetration of his penis to the female's vulva. At this point, the penis is not erect, it is slender and held rigid by a small bone inside, known as the baculum. When the male achieves penetration, he will often hold tighter and thrust faster, and it is at this point when he is mating that the male's penis expands. Canine reproduction is different from human sexual intercourse, because human males become erect first, and then enter the female; canine males enter first, then swell and become erect. The male dog has a bulbus glandis, a spherical area of erectile tissue at the base of the penis, which traps the penis inside the female's vagina during copulation as it becomes engorged with blood. [1] Once the penis is locked into the vagina by the bulbus glandis, the male will usually lift a leg and swing it over the female's back while turning around. The two stand with their hind ends touching and the penis locked inside the vagina while ejaculation occurs, decreasing leakage of semen from the vagina. After some time, typically 5 - 20 minutes (but sometimes longer), the bulbus glandis disengorges, allowing the mates to separate. Virgin dogs can become quite distressed at finding themselves unable to separate during their first copulation, and may try to pull away or run. Dog breeders' websites often suggest it is appropriate for those involved to help calm and settle the mating dogs once this stage is reached, if they show anxiety, through until eventual separation.

How long does a female dog 's cycle or heat last?

It depend's on the dog and the breed. Just like every human female is different, every female dog is different. I breed Saint Bernard's and Large breed dog's for instance don't come into heat for the first time until normally anywhere from 8-13 months of age and then again anywhere from 3-8 months later. But mY aunt used to breed Pomeranians and they came into heat for their first cycle at about 4-6months. Some Dog's come into heat at 6 months for the first time though and other not until 24 months of age. and Some females go a yr without having a Heat Cycle at all. It just depends on your dog, you know your dog better than anyone else, be attentive to how she's acting and montior her in the months that follow her first heat cycle.

You should not try to force feed a dog. The only time it might be necessary to force feed a dog is when you have to give them medicine. In that case, you can put the pill in it's mouth, close it's mouth gently and massage their neck with your hand.

Is there a danger of spaying a female dog too young?

With increased age there is always an increased risk of going under anesthetic. This is usually due to the fact that the liver and kidneys don't function as well as they would in a young healthy pup. Not to say that they won't function well. Also with an older female or a female that has had pups ( even if she is still young) there is increased risk of bleeding during the removal of the uterus and ovaries. This is why there is usually a 'mature fee' associated with the spay of an older dog. It takes more anesthetic time to prevent any (excess) bleeding. Also if it is a very old dog there can be whats call 'pyometra' which is a condition of the uterus that sometimes occurs.

All in all, it depends on the health of the dog, not the age.

To decrease the anesthetic risk of an older dog going into surgery, the following are typically recommended by vets:

PRE SURGICAL BLOOD WORK- this lets us know if the liver and kidneys are functioning well enough to be able to handle the anesthetic

IV FLUIDS- helps keep blood pressure up, keeps the dog hydrated, makes recovery time faster and easier and helps flush the system of anesthetic

Propofol- this drug should be used as the induction agent when putting the dog 'under' before they are put onto the anesthetic gas (isoflurane) The reason being that propofol is metabolised by the lungs instead of the liver/kidneys.

Which breed-of-dog has the biggest-litters?

The largest litter ever recorded (so far) was born to a Neapolitan Mastiff and there were 24 pups born in total (although 3 died shortly). The record for the largest litter when all the pups survived stands with 3 different dogs at 23 pups. Those dogs were an American Foxhound, a St. Bernard, and a Great Dane. I am not sure which dogs have the largest litters on average, I'm pretty sure it just varies from dog to dog.
