Only Humans and Dogs look into the eyes of a human and more look first at the right eye and then the left. No other animal does this, dogs don't even do it with eachother, only with humans. All other animals, even wild dogs such as wolves, look at the whole face of the animal and not directly at the eyes. Further proof of this is shown when a person makes eye contact with a dog and then looks somewhere else. Even without pointing or turning your head the dog will look the same direction and follow your gaze. No other animal does these things, not even dolphins. So to answer your question, we can't be sure without more research. Is this a sign of increased intellegence or is it a sign that dogs have evolved specifically for communication with humans?
