What was the difference between renaissance art and medieval art?

The primary difference would be the development of Perspective geometry for rendering scenes in a lifelike manner. An outgrowth of the science of Optics, Perspective illustration technique affected everything from architecture to map making to military ballistics, and revolutionized man's view of reality. Once you realize that you can measurably and accurately represent the world around you in perspective, on paper, it also gives you the ability to accurately plan on how you would change that world. Renaissance cathedrals are excellent examples of how finely the design and construction of even the largest buildings can be controlled and foreseen thru application of perspective, to meet a very specific and precise artistic goal. The development of perspective technique also spurred innovation in tools and methods of measurement and observation that significantly impacted the growth and methodology of science. Medieval art, on the other hand, was far more symbolic than purely representational. For example, human subjects in medieval paintings and frescos were often sized as to importance, rather than their position in a scene... Such that Priests and saints would be painted as larger than common folks, and Jesus painted larger than everybody else. These were their 'theological' sizes, as opposed to the sizes in relation to their surroundings.

Painter of Garden of Earthly Delights?

Bosch is often considered to be a "moralizing artist" and much of his artwork does seem to be making a statement about the grave danger of submitting oneself to a life ruled by sensual pleasures and decadence. However, the images depicting the sensuality are so vividly depicted, so full of color and life, that the painting has elicited many different reactions from its viewers.

The painting had an immediate impact upon me and some time later I began to imagine musical textures that in some way gave voice to my strong reactions to Bosch's painting. My work, though influenced by the energy and dark intensity of Bosch's painting, does not attempt in any way to be a "musical analog" for this triptych. Rather, my reaction to the painting provided an impetus for the creation of the basic musical materials and formal structure of the composition. The music then began to take on a life of its own, moving in different directions than it would have were it a strictly programmatic work. In particular, I was not interested in making any kind of grand moral statement regarding the issues suggested in Bosch's painting. I did find, however, that certain compelling, visually striking images stayed with me and suggested an interesting visceral embodiment in sound.

What is the post modern frame in art?

Modernism is generally wrapped around the belief that the world is constantly improving itself and moving toward a greater, more perfect whole.

Postmodernism is generally wrapped around the idea that the world changes, that ideas change, and that some ideas work better than others, but that there is no "right" way of doing things. Postmodernism challenges the way society has structured the world and does not like to categorize people or art. It does not believe in progress.

What do you call the subject matter or what the viewer recognizes as the main intent or meaning of an artwork?

No, that is usually referred to as subject matter. A meaning or message in a work of art is more subjective, that is it can be different to different people. A simple example is the statue of 'David' by Michaelangelo. The subject matter is a young David at the moment before he slays Goliath. A meaning or message of the work could be the super human qualities of a hero.
