Fleas

Fleas are wingless insects that live off the blood of mammals and birds. There are over 2,000 species of fleas, and due to their thick outer layer, are difficult to kill through force alone. When fleas feed on a host, they tend to leave raised and itchy bumps, and can sometimes cause diseases.

What to bath a 7 week puppy with that has fleas?

I have used Dawn dish soap....very carefully...on stray kitten I found who was infested with fleas. There is a lot of controversy about this...and it is very drying to the animals skins. There 'may' be store brands that are now okay for puppies and kittens, so you may want to try that first. If you use it on the puppy be very careful with his/her eyes. This will only be a temporary solution, but it may get you started. :)

How can you kill fleas without hiring an exterminator?

Not really. The most effective way of getting rid of fleas is to use one of those once a month flea medications such as Frontline, Advantage or Advocate. The best, most effective brands can be bought from your vet. These are a once a month flea medication that will prevent fleas & ticks from getting on him or her for a month. You apply it topically. Combing the dog regularly will remove dead or dying fleas, and should be done until no more fleas can be seen. Washing the dog using a flea shampoo for dogs is also another method for helping getting rid of fleas. Never use human shampoo, detergent or any other products with strong chemicals in. They may kill the fleas, but will also irritate the dog's skin and will cause unnecessary discomfort.

Can fleas make a kitten sick?

A heavily infested animal, over time, can lose a substantial amount of blood to fleas. Double the number of fleas and the young animal can be dead in a month. They lose so many red blood cells to the fleas that they become anemic and die.
